Motherhood Raising a child is not easy especially when a mother is subjected to racial discrimination, poor socioeconomic conditions, daily scrutiny or ethical questions. Two well-known authors, Langston Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks, poetically express some of these struggles that surround the theme of motherhood. Langston Hughes’ “Mother to Son” reveals that this mother (Mother 1) is a caring individual who has to gently remind her son that “Life…ain’t…no crystal stair” (Pg.1254). Life is not going to be easy for the mother or child, but having the gift and opportunity of life is something that many people take for granted. In contrast, Gwendolyn Brooks’ “the mother” exposes the reality and un-motherly act of abortion.
In Judy Brady's essay, “I Want a Wife”, Brady outlines many every day responsibilities and duties of a stereotypical wife in the 1970's. She informs her readers that she herself is classified as a wife and a mother and tells a story of her male friend's divorce who is now on the prowl for another wife. She realizes that she herself would like to have a wife in order for her to go to school and she lists many reasons how a wife of her own could help make that possible. A wife of her own can stay home and tend to the house cleaning and cooking, family scheduling, take care of the children, tend to house guests so that she can relax, and even her sexual needs. Brady compares a wife's world to that of a husband's world through the eyes of the typical
| “There are states that require a parental consent for children under the age of 18 years.” There should be more substance to this point. The sentence stands alone and leaves the reader wondering. | What is your favorite part of this piece of writing? | “When a woman decides that abortion is the way to go it not an easy decision to come to there may be factors that they need to look at. When a women is pregnant and they are excited at the fact that they are pregnant all of that joy can be shattered after an ultrasound is performed and the women is informed that her child is going to have no functional daily life and is going to be hook up to a ventilator for the rest of his/her life.” This is a very strong personal opinion that I completely agree with.
Martha’s Daughter and Son in Law have recently moved into her home to live with her. On the day in question, when the daughter arrived to collect her, Martha was found ‘hiding’ in the staff room with her friend when approached by the staff she said she did not want to go home if her daughter and son in law were still going to be living there. She stated that they were ‘taking over her life and her money’. She became very agitated and said she ‘was not going anywhere until her son was contacted and he was with her’. Martha’s son normally lived abroad but was currently in this country.
Her psychological trauma begins with the brutality of the way her first daughter was taken away to die. “She was not prepared for what happened last time… Kavita felt her budding joy give away to confusion. She tried to speak, to articulate something from her thoughts swirling in her head” (page 6-7). This quote shows that she was at first happy with the birth of her first child, but her confusion of the moment left her with no response. She could only admire her child and she could not understand why her husband could not see
MY SISTER’S KEEPER (Movie Review) Conceived by means of in vitro fertilization, Anna Fitzgerald (Abigail Breslin) was brought into the world to be a genetic match for her older sister, Kate (Sofia Vassilieva), who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia. Because of her sister's dependency on her, Anna is unable to live the life she wants; in and out of the hospital constantly, she cannot take part in extracurricular activities such as cheerleading or soccer. When Kate turns 13 she goes into renal failure. Knowing that she will have to donate one of her kidneys to her sister, Anna sues her parents for medical emancipation and the rights to her own body. Attorney Campbell Alexander (Alec Baldwin) agrees to work for Anna pro bono.
However, the girl just ignored them. And one day, her parents were involved in a car accident, and they died. When the girl found out her parents died, she felt very regretful because since she was a little girl, she start ignoring her parents, just stayed at home, never communicate with her parents about what she is thinking and difficulties, and now, she is very regret about not spending time to communicate with her parents. So, don’t ever isolated yourself with the others, otherwise, you will feel regret
Practical Skills Application and Brief Reflective Log. Session 3 – Communication Skills I spoke to my sister about her upcoming wedding and the associated difficulties. These are to do with organizing the perfect day in their strict budget, that her and fiancé Tim have conflicting ideas, and she is struggling to satisfy her and Tim’s parents, both of which are excited and want to be involved. She discussed a recent argument with Tim, which had left her quite upset, she was saying that she believed it to be very hard, and the constant arguing was leaving them both drained and unexcited about the upcoming day. As my sister does not open up very often, I decided to listen without interruption, and I chose to discuss this with her in our parents living room, in the comfort of the familiar space, warmth, and comfy couches with a cup of tea.
