Jones Movie Family Case Study Carol Coleman Buena Vista University Jones Movie Family Case Study Introduction This case study is based on the Jones family, from the movie “Precious”. In my opnion this is a Level I family, with multiple problems. Clariece, “Precious” Jones, who is 16-years-old, lives with her mother, Mary Johnston. Clarice has been raped by her father, Carl Jackson, resulting in 2 pregnancies, 2 children. Her first child, a daughter named Mongo has Down Syndrome. Mongo lives with Clarice’s grandmother, Veeta Jones. After the discovery of Clarice’s second pregnancy Clarice was taken out of regular school and placed in an alternative school. She is doing well there and is making friends with her new classmates. She is feeling acceptance there and learning new skills. She is also developing a sense of pride and a new gained strength within herself. Clarice gives birth to her second child, a son, who she named Abduhl. She takes her son home, and soon after she has an altercation with her mother. Her mother purposely drops 3-day-old Abduhl, who is injured. Clarice escapes with Abduhl, from her mother’s violent behavior, never to return there. Fortunately, Abduhl suffers only a minor injury, as a result of this violent incident. With the assistance of Clarice’s teacher, Miss Rain, Clarice and her son are placed in a half- house. Mongo soon comes to live with her there as well. Clairice wholeheartedly agrees to continue with her education. Precious continues counseling with her therapist Ms. Weiss. Clarice’s mother Mary tries to get the therapist to assist her in reconciling with Clarice. But after more details come forward regarding her physical and mental abuses since she was 3-years-old, Ms. Weiss refuses. Considering the extent of the nature of the abuse, it was not recommended.
