Justin K. DeYoung US Gov. 1/31/2015 The naturalization process is the process in which a foreigner must go through in order to establish a legal citizenship in the United States. The purpose of the naturalization process is to determine whether or not an individual is sufficiently knowledgeable of American language, customs, government/laws, history, etc. to become a functioning and productive member of the American society/populace. The process not only tests these areas but also includes an oral examination and written portions to test literacy along with a basic understanding of the English language and the ability to speak it. Now, I am going to be asking you a series of 8 questions regarding the naturalization process. Alright, question number one: what year were you naturalized?" [M]: "1991..." [J]: "Ok, question number two: what is it that inspired you to become a US citizen?" [M]: "Well, my husband wanted to go away from Hungary and I guess I just wanted to stick with the family." [J]: "Question number three: what steps did you have to take as part of the naturalization process?" [M]: "I had to learn English and a little history and government.
