Despite the fact, neither Lucy or her six children were ever slaves again. Lucy tended to be very popular with younger people because of her storytelling. Lots of people loved to hear her stories and original poems. Lucy also applied for a position at Williams College for her eldest son. She argued for 3 hours and gave a speech to the Trustees of Williams College.
Henry is Olive’s support system as well as her polar opposite, his kindness drives her crazy but at the same time keeps her level headed. He is madly in love with Olive, which is shown by his present conversations with her and past reflections. Strout’s time shifts are seamless, and naturally free flowing. For example, “Autumn now, November, and so many years later that when Henry runs a comb through his hair on this Sunday morning, he has to pluck some strands of gray from the black plastic teathe before slipping the comb back into his pocket.” Stroud uses complex, descriptive sentences to give vivid details. Personally, I enjoyed Stroud’s description of Olive in “A Little Burst” during her son Christopher’s wedding.
In other case, she was raised by her father and brother because her mom died when she was two. When Scout was a narrator this is what she said to the reader “’ Our mother died when I was two, so I never felt her absence”’ (7). This quote shows that she is tomboyish because her dad been in her life and she don’t really miss her mother that much and there really no female in her house except the maid. This is interesting because back then you see girls that are very girly and wear dresses and make up. Another reason that Scout is so interesting is because she is smart.

However, it was not until 1889 where her dads plan for her to stay with them backfired. From her florist business, that Celia had established she was able to accumulate two thousand dollars that she was going to use to pay for her education at the Wellesley College in 1889. This type of event has definitely happened to people before and we can relate to it which is why sitcoms are so effective. Elaine is a person who has her good and bad days, she goes to the top with a job raise and all the way down with someone getting her new office. Kramer is the ‘wackiest’ character and is the leeching neighbour who takes a lot but doesn’t give much back. You can relate with all these characters whether you act like them or know someone like them, they teach us values in a non confrontational way which is why sitcoms have such great effectiveness and even
Emily Jane Darer, born on a Tuesday, January 17, 2011, I was ecstatic, thrilled, happy, excited and missing her already, yet we haven’t met. This beautiful baby girl with big brown eyes and brown hair had captured my heart. My empty arms were aching to hold her, this wonderful blessing, a perfect little angel from God. To hold Emily in my arms, close to my heart was always on my mind. I wanted, and Vivian too to be much closer than we were, it was time to move home.
I asked one of the men working what he thought of his job and he said to me “it's the saddest most rewarding position in the world and I'm happy to be here.” To work in this field you have to be understanding of other peoples feelings and be patient. To work within this center I would need to have my bachelors degree and pass a personality screening test. At this center most of the workers truly cared for the people and you could tell because they took their time with each person thoroughly explaining to the person what they needed to do. Others were rude! For example one woman needed to bring in proof of residency for something and the man looked at what she brought in and said loudly “nope you need one more, next”.
Or maybe Kippy was fat, too. I saw us walking to class, two jolly fat girls, sharing a joke-- my mother's death successfully hidden." This quote shows Dolores making the decision to go off to college, something she had spent months trying to get out of. "“I love you, Ma. This is for you.
Running head: Reflective Essay It is good to be a College Student IDS 4001 Dr. Joseph L. Kibitlewski, Ph D. April 6, 2010 Graduating from college has always been my personal passion since I was a little girl. Upon graduating from high school twenty years ago, I have attended different colleges. January 2002, when I first coming to this country I did not think about going back to college anymore, because it seemed like it was too hard for me as a single mother with two children, and a full time job. In 2005, after a lot of experiences that I have been through to get a better job with a good pay and a good benefit, I found out it wasn’t too easy for me because I don’t have a college degree. Then, I realized there is nothing better than being a college student, and at the beginning of 2006 I decided to go back to college for another orientation in my life.
