TKAM Character Essay: Scout The name of the book that I read was call To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This essay is going to be about Scout(Jean Louise finch). She is the narrator and one of the main character. The thesis statement is who is scout? What makes her so interesting as a narrator(storyteller) and a character? Scout is a really interesting character because she is smart, tomboy, and curiosity. One reason that Scout is so interesting is that she is a smart. For example, she wears jeans and overalls, barely takes bath, and be around with boys especially with Dill and Jem. In other case, she was raised by her father and brother because her mom died when she was two. When Scout was a narrator this is what she said to the reader “’ Our mother died when I was two, so I never felt her absence”’ (7). This quote shows that she is tomboyish because her dad been in her life and she don’t really miss her mother that much and there really no female in her house except the maid. This is interesting because back then you see girls that are very girly and wear dresses and make up. Another reason that Scout is so interesting is because she is smart. Second example is that she been reading longer than other classmates but her teacher gets mad because she’s more advance at reading then any other students in her class. Jem said to Charles Baker Harris “’ Scout yonder’s been reading ever since she was born, and she aint even started to school yet”(7). This quote shows that she is smart because she’s already reading and getting prepare for school so she can be just like her dad. This trait is interesting because she is going to be really intelligent and have a great future for her dill and there children’s and maybe moved out of Maycomb and live in a nicer city like Hollywood or New York City. My last reason that scout is interesting is because she’s curiosity.
