History and Summary of the Department of Homeland Security Homeland Security is a program that was created after the 9/11 attacks. The focus of the department was to protect the United States against terrorist attacks and to be able to respond in the event of an attack. The DHS became official in November 2002 when the Homeland Security Act was passed and signed by Congress. DHS consists of 5 departments that all ensure the safety of our country. Counterterrorism is the department that mainly focuses on preventing terrorism, preventing the use, possession, or transport of harmful chemicals, and enhancing the security in the United States.

Well this is basically what the United State and United Kingdom's government is doing on a daily basis. The United States National Security Agency has been implementing projects in secret to monitoring people since 2001 but it would still be kept as a secret if Edward Snowden did not reveal this massive secret that was intruding the public’s privacy for years. These cadets are of the utmost importance because they are the next leaders of the US Air Force. For a terrorist, the graduation ceremony is the opportune time to commit a terrorist act because it is a day of celebration in which most people would never suspect an act so despicable to take place, thus leaving them off guard. The attack at the US Air Force Academy was planned for quite some time by an individual Al-Qaeda terrorist that had it out specifically for the US military and its members. He wanted to show the American people and our government that it is possible to not only enter a secure military installation, but to cause death and destruction. By developing a disaster plan, the US Air Force Academy will increase the awareness of everyone involved but also will serve as a guide to follow in the event there are future attacks.
