To do so, the Counterterrorism Division was produced. The Counterterrorism Division collects, analyzes, and shares information and critical intelligence with other federal agencies and departments as well as law enforcement agencies throughout the country. Since the FBI is so important to our country’s defense, it is important to have the best people for the job. That is why there are several requirements that a potential agent must meet before being allowed to join the agency. Some of those requirements are: 1.

Is Congress a watchdog or lapdog? Personally, I believe that Congress is a watchdog, whether it is a united or a divided government. However, many people may disagree with this because they may believe that whether or not the Congress is a watchdog or lapdog depends on the government being divided or united. The reason for this is: if it is a united government, Congress will not want to embarrass the President by constantly putting him into account. However, this is not true because the Congress is both an independent and co-equal branch of Government.
Desmond LeSure Professor Bolton ENGL 1020 19 April 2012 “Is the Three-Strikes Law fair and ethical?” There are individuals who were known as habitual criminals who constantly repeated the cycle of committing a crime, getting arrested, and eventually getting released. In 1993, Americans noticed that this was very costly to the public because the process of arresting and trying these criminals was expensive. American tax payers were beginning to become concerned with this issue and wanted something to be done about habitual offenders. Society is pushing the issue that it was more logical to keep repeat criminals in jail and not release them to commit more crimes. Politicians listened to society and executed a law that would put an end to

The Effects of Felony Convictions RaShawnda Anderson Kaplan University The Effects of Felony Convictions The effects of felony convictions are a very hot topic in America. This is because there are many Americans that commit crimes and are punished yet still deal with the effects for years to come. Felons are a part of society and should be treated as such especially if they are reformed. A person can commit a crime that results in a felony and twenty years later still suffer the harsh reality of certain privileges being taken away. Yes, an individual should be punished for their crimes but the effects of a felony conviction should not include or affect that person’s right to vote, finding employment, or the pursuance of a higher education.
In reality, the majority of the legislation is directed towards people suspected of terrorism. It gives law enforcement the tools to protect our country, to track and arrest those involved in terrorism. In my opinion, our law enforcement agency's record speaks for itself. It has been over seven years since the attacks on 9/11, and we have not had another terrorist attack of that magnitude on our soil. I am confident that the USA PATRIOT Act played an integral role in achieving that
For example, there are multiple reasons why I disagree with Ambrose Bierce’s quote: “Un-American, adj. Wicked, intolerable, heathenish.” First of all, in this country, all citizens are entitled to their own opinions. Second, just because some don’t agree with other’s opinions doesn’t give them the right to declare them wrong. And also, even someone doing the bare minimum is still doing something to help. In the United States of America, the people are protected by a group of laws called the Constitution.
Many members of congress believed that individuals should have these rights regardless of having it formally written and didn’t want to create a Bill of Rights. In fact, some believed that implementing personal rights might actually take away rights (UMKC, 2012). These people were called federalists. James Madison had a different agenda though. The anti-federalists sought after a proposal that focused on passing laws, which protected the people as well as the government.
For every illegal they arrest and detain, more will enter the country. This mimics a federal law, so it's not lending any credibility to helping out. Rather it will cost more tax money to arrest and detain all immigrants and maintained them in jails until their status is determined. This means more tax money is going into dealing with all immigrants being detained. All these immigration laws have consequences and some are worst than others.
