11 December 2014 Drowning in the Discourse Julie Wildhaber says that “A strong, well-defined voice is the bridge between you and your audience: It helps your readers understand who you are, and it helps you engage them” (Wildhaber). For students in college, their audience will always be their professor. Along with expecting a strong voice, professors expect students, even first year students, to master and employ the many other writing skills that make up academic discourse. Most students tend to prioritize the more technical conventions of writing over the development of a distinguished and personalized voice. The conventions of college writing are very complex and if professors are more helpful and patient with first year students as they learn academic discourse, students will be better prepared for all future academic endeavors and they will have a better opportunity to strengthen and develop their voice.

Jayde Bachman Empire State College Author Note This proposal was prepared for Diversity in the Workplace, BME-213164-05-13SP1, taught by Dr. Robin 2 Abstract I have decided to conduct my audit on Johnson & Johnson because it is a company that I am familiar with. I use their products on a daily basis and feel that their products are a part of every household. I am curious how Johnson & Johnson has created a diverse company through every aspect of diversity. From gender to race to sexual orientation, how has Johnson & Johnson maintained their status while also being on DiversityInc’s “The Top 50 Companies for Diversity.” Does Johnson & Johnson strive to be a diverse company? Or do they just naturally follow the systematic approach to following diversity?
That will keep the morale and participation from employees high. Core vs. flexible hrs As reviewing some of your files I also discovered that one of your founding principles is to have core workforce. I believe that a mixture of core and flexible workforce is essential in the retail industry. By having a core workforce your are eliminating potential good candidates from applying to your positions. Why do you seek to join Teach For America? Throughout my training in the various jobs that I have held, I have obtained the organizational skills and rapport within the interactions I have made with each company, which I feel would highly qualify me for a variety of teaching positions throughout the Teach for America program. I have a strong passion for working with people and children, which I have learned throughout working in the restaurant services field and in the education field in the two schools I have tutored at with the AVID Program and mentored at as well. In both types of positions that I’ve held, customer service and human relation skills were highly valued and I have over six years of experience in positions of this magnitude. Some skills that I have received from my mentors and supervisors that I have had the privilege of working with are that I have become more comfortable in public settings, improving my verbal skills on a professional level and having to draft letters of intent for field trips, fundraisers and order forms which has greatly improved my written communication skills as well.
