My GEMS' Survey Findings Yolanda Womack COLL 100 American Military University Instructor Name My GEMs Survey Findings My time has come; I'm seeking a college education, finally!. Why now? My daughters are both in college: Junior and Senior, I'm where I want to be in my career right now, and most of all: I have an unquenchable thirst for learning. Through the Gilbert Education and Management Systems (GEMS) survey, I was able to identify my Grand Type and Work Preference Indicators (WPI) to assist me with how I will approach this journey. The GEMS survey identified my Grand Type as a Goal Oriented Thinker - A Team Strategist. The findings were no surprise to me. I embody the characteristics of a Goal Oriented Thinker: I am a Team Strategist: a self directed, highly motivated, goal oriented person. Once I set a goal for myself, I'm never satisfied until its complete. I expect more of myself than what is expected of me. I've also gravitated to jobs that allowing me the freedom to take charge of my work. However, the GEMS survey did not clearly specify a dominant learning style for me. It acknowledged that as a Visual Learner (WRIT): "I am not highly motivated to learn about work related information through manuals, guides, and other forms of written material" and as an Aural Learner (AURL): "my learning through talking with others and exchanging ideas verbally is slightly lower than most others." Therefore, I will defer to the Learning Your Nature exercise which identified me as an Auditory Learner, which I agree. Note, however, my score was almost tied with a Visual Learner, one point off. I believe the assessment captured my learning style correctly. I definitely learn better through listening and talking with people as well as seeing things visually.
