Social isolation can also be a big factor for loss of appetite Forgetfulness Illness and medications can result in reduced appetite and difficulties with shopping, preparing and eating food. The person with dementia may have problems communicating that they are hungry or that they dislike the food they have been given. They may communicate their needs through their behaviour. For example, they may refuse to eat or hold food in their mouth. Giving people a choice of food, using prompts and pictures, may help.
That’s why they tend to overeat and get overweight. Some people feel satisfy with food and it makes them happy. I think those people are very lazy and just want to do whatever they feel good about. I know that obesity is not only having extra weight but also cause many health problems. Many obese people suffer from heart disease, diabetes and many other things.
Although many people may not like natural food because it do not have not flavor, natural food does provide enough nutrients, so people can have more energy in their daily life performance. For instance, when I eat homemade food, I have sufficient energy to be able to study, play soccer, and go to work. Therefore, I enjoy more to eat homemade food than eating processing food. Pollen believes Cooking is one of the most important health consequences of buying food from local farmers” (Pollen539) I agree, because I feel so different when I do not eat homemade food. They cannot just stop and eat meal while working in official hours, so it seems not to be an appropriate plan to keep people healthy. However, eating less and slowly just makes a person spend a little bit more time for each meal but still keep their health in good
This means that they need different types of nutrition’s. For example since their metabolism tend to burn the food faster they need some type of heavy food but not too heavy so soon their metabolism won’t be able to break it down; which will cause them to gain weight. Pollan does point out in his book how fast food is not very healthy and how it is a poor quality of food. I am here to correct what he said towards fast food. Eating disorders are triggered by emotions just like eating signals are. “Current studies evaluated the mediating roles of appetite awareness and emotional awareness in a brief eating disorders prevention programs designed to help participants identify and respond to internal appetite signals.” (Brown, 2010) There are some people who may use food as a form a comfort and they just eat large amounts of food because they are upset. People who are overweight tend to have emotional triggers when someone makes comments about their weight. There are also those who will binge eat or eat a large meal and then induce vomiting in order to get rid of the large amount of calories their just took in. Many clients could start to feel down on themselves and use that food for comfort; however, there are those who have the reverse effect and when they are depressed they choose not to eat food at all.
This means that person with dementia can forget how important it is to eat and drink. They also may lose sense of hunger and thirst. It can become problem putting client’s health at risk. It is though entirely possible to eat right and have a good exercise regimen. It just takes having the tools and the willpower to put it into action and stick to it. I know that to be healthy I need to change the way I eat and get more exercise, and I now have the knowledge to do so. I now just need to muster up the courage and willpower to make some healthy changes to my diet and exercise routines.
A lot of people will go to food banks even when they don’t need to because if people can get free food, they will. “Benefit levels can be substantial, far more than they might earn, so it’s a rational choice to stay on benefits, and to get the free food.”(Ewina Currie). Once people reap the benefits of food banks, they will stay on because they can, even after they get out of poverty. Food banks rarely have the resources to visit people at their homes, but if they did, they would find that many people living the opposite of a life in poverty. When people do this, they take food away from people who really need it.
After that, if food is available, more food is usually consumed, which helps the progress of obesity. The consumption of more organic foods can combat obesity and malnourishment. Unlike fast food, organic foods are not toxic and have more useful nutrients. However, their price is usually high, and families with low income cannot afford them. Organic food is expensive due to a number of different factors.
