Victoria DiGiovanni The majority of high schools are now requiring a certain amount of community service hours in order to graduate. Most students see this as a chore, but just how beneficial is it? Community service improves the student’s character, exposes the student to new interests, and benefits the student’s future. Mandatory community service enhances these advantages. A student’s participation in various activities throughout the community opens the door to not only a better society, but also an improvement in the student’s morality and character.
These studies are not unusual. Several studies and surveys have demonstrated that students` academic scores in subjects, such as math, were greatly improved when they were able to participate in some form of music education program. In other subjects, it was noted that students are less likely to draw conclusions that were completely unfounded. While listening to music is beneficial, music education provides even more benefits to students. The ear is not the only part of the body used in music class.
Making music involves more than the voice or fingers playing an instrument; a child learning about music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously. For instance, people use their ears and eyes, as well as large and small muscles, says Kenneth Guilmartin, cofounder of Music Together, an early childhood music development program for infants through kindergarteners that involves parents or caregivers in the classes. “Music learning supports all learning. Not that Mozart makes you smarter, but it’s a very integrating, stimulating pastime or activity,” Guilmartin says. Language Development “When you look at children ages two to nine, one of the breakthroughs in that area is music’s benefit for language development, which is so important at that stage,” says Luehrisen.
If parents are paying the exceeded taxes. There is a sufficient amount of money for public schooling especially with a big population in the city. By threatening the public educational system with budget cuts, this is just a way to deteriorate the quality of learning. Getting rid of teachers is not a intelligent way of saving money. The Board of Education wants the best for students by closing schools, a lot can’t be accomplished by establishing closures across the country.
Ethnic conflict has lasting effects for a country’s economy. Money dedicated to purchase arms and equipment takes away from building proper government infrastructure. Less money goes to education, health care, and building facilities. When education is affected, it results in more people becoming un-skilled workers. For those who did receive an education, an ethnic conflict could force them to migrate to different regions in the world, resulting in a brain drain for the area infected with an ethnic conflict.
“Gap year students show a clear pattern of having a higher GPA than would otherwise have been predicted, and the positive effect lasts over all four years” (“Data”). With a gap year, college students are more likely to go to school with a purpose and want to do well and get good grades. Taking a one year break between high school and college allows motivation and interest to studying will be renewed. Excelling well in academics can help one get scholarships and will help them pay for their education, so they won’t have to pay as much. College can be very expensive, and not many people have the funds to pay for college.
"Music helps the mind develop and grow," my dad often says, and I have found this to be very true. It is a proven fact that participating in a music program in school will help develop your brain to a higher level and faster than other students. Music actually improves communication between the right and left sides of the brain, allowing you to gain better comprehension and memorization skills. So, why do we need music in our schools? Well, because music is everything.
The education system has become a monopolizing subject across the United States. So many questions have been raised about what is good to teach, and how those subjects should be taught. Many schools are the pressure of bettering their education system, but tend to find they are also dealing with the trials of having to drop certain subjects in order to focus more intently on the ones deemed most important. Unfortunately, in today's society, the fine arts programs of the school systems have been neglected and even underdeveloped. What many educator's may not realize is that a well-organized and well developed fine arts program can be the difference maker in a child’s learning ability and capability.
Along with the growing emphasis on education, reduction in class size has become a trend in a considerable number of countries, especially those with highly-developed educational system, like America, Canada and the UK (Ehrenberg and Brewer et al., 2001) The issue of the role of class size in deciding the achievement of students has been widely debated. The debate concerning class size helps evaluate the worth of large investment in staff-student ratio. It is true that limiting class size can produce benefits in teaching, but it is obviously not the only factor. In this essay, I will argue for the impacts of small classes, and put forward other essential factors that can influence academic success. Recent research (Ward, 2006 ) demonstrates that separating students into small size classes by their different levels is better for literacy instruction in elementary schools.
“The Effects of Different Types of Music on Cognitive Abilities” University of Perpetual help Billy Mañuel E. Alcaraz Yovela Rose Badua Frances Maxine Marie Capili Kim Nichole Carianga Joanne Marie De Leon Jastine Loise Ramos INTRODUCTION: Listening to music for relaxation is common among students to counter the effects of stress or anxiety while completing difficult academic tasks. Some studies supporting this technique have shown that background music promotes cognitive performance while other studies have shown that listening to music while engaged in complex cognitive tasks can impair performance. The relationship between music and learning has been an area of interest for researchers for many years. Some studies have shown that music can enhance cognitive abilities (Hall, 1952), and others have shown that it can interfere with complex cognitive processes but not simple processes (Fogelson, 1973). In 2004, researchers conducted a study that presented the effect of Mozart’s music on learning.
