Angie Morocho 11/16/14 Should students at WBA be allowed to listen to music in their core classes? Some parents and teachers think that students who listen to music during their class time will be distracted and won’t be able to focus on the lesson they are being teached. On the other hand, some parents and teachers think that students will do well and are able to focus better. Both sides of the argument have good reasons but I believe students at WBA should be allowed to listen to music in their core classes. Music is believed to help focus better in their task.
Moreover, the class took place in one famous music college that was just a few blocks away from my school. I used the appeals of ethos, pathos and logos to become accepted as an essential unit of this discourse community in which I had taken part in. During my three years in the class, I learned much about my instrument and the theory of music. I learned music as a whole new subject and explored the dynamics of learning and playing the keyboard and how to use it to produce good sound! I also learnt the different types of notes, scales, rhythms, tempos, the history of music, the composition of good music, and many more new things which not only made me develop my skills in my instrument but also gave me a thorough review of orchestration music as a whole.
Music has been shown to help cognitive growth, help students understand other subjects such as math and language, and teach very important life lessons. While sports do help a student grow physically, music helps that student grow mentally. Neuroscientists have conducted experiments with this, and found that music does in fact have a huge impact on how one’s brain develops. Dr. Laurel Trainor, professor of psychology, neuroscience, and behavior at McMaster University, Canada, lead a team of scientist in a study in which they studied the mental development of children (all ages 4 through 6) who took extra music lessons and children who did not. Over the year, they found that as their brains matured, it took less time for their to be an auditory response to a musical note versus some other sort of white noise, meaning that their brains became more able to process sounds faster.
How music affects us is connected through our brains neurochemistry, our mental associations with the music, our culture, and our spirit, which are all mentioned in this scientific journey. Through this journey the writer perplexed me with scientific and musical vocabulary and redundant examples, but at the same time, I was fascinated with his description of the anatomy of the brain and why we enjoy the music we prefer listening to. I must admit that I had high expectations for this book because of my appreciation for music and what a significant role it plays in my life. However, when I began reading, I found the beginning of the book to be very abstruse. Knowing the definitions of pitch, timbre, meter and loudness, to name a few, do not help me enjoy music more than what I already do.
POSSIBLE EXAM STYLE QUESTIONS ON MEMORY: • Psychology students sometimes revise for an exam by reading their notes over and over again. However, psychologists suggest that other memory improvement strategies may be more effective. • Explain how a student could use their knowledge of strategies for memory improvement (other than repetition) to help revise for a psychology exam. • Explain two differences between short-term memory and long-term memory in this Model • Explain two differences between short-term memory and long-term memory in this Model • Outline one strength and one limitation of the working memory model • In this experiment, participants were asked to look at a photograph rather than watch a live conversation. Explain one strength and one limitation of carrying out the experiment in this way.
Mini Essay 1 – The Importance of Singing in the Early Years Classroom In the same way that the human body marries together different physiological processes to produce vocal sound, singing also fuses together different forms of education. This creates a unique outcome. Singing can cut across the curriculum and provide an educational bridge to other areas of learning that a child may not necessarily enjoy participating in. Pugh and Pugh state that: As we sing, we are directly involved in a complex process of coordination, involving the brain, the ears, the lungs, the diaphragm, the vocal chords, the lips, the teeth. Our bodies become instruments.
1. amount of water 2.amount of sunlight 3.type of plant 4.kind of soil 5.the pot All of these can affect or make a difference in the results of the experiment. PART 2 PURPOSE:My fellow peers and I are trying to find out Can music affect how well we concentrate and does the genre matter? The students at school at complaining because we can’t listen to music in class. Most students claim they can concentrate better with music. RESEARCH:I would do research on the way our brain concentrates ,surveys of people’s opinion, other scientist results.
Will Power Not Pill Power Adderall is one of the most commonly abused medical drugs amongst college students. It is a drug used to help people with ADD, ADHD, and narcolepsy. Although it is mainly used to help people with these disorders, many college students take it to help them focus and “do better” on their exams. It is a drug abuse that has been occurring since drugs or “pills” have entered the pharmaceutical market, and it occurs under the radar of law officials. Students take these drugs to stimulate their brain so they can work well under pressure and focus on studying.
Smaller classrooms have been shown to increase learning potential, and therefore these smaller, individualized sessions help develop increased learning aptitude and attention. Not only that, music lessons can also spark an interest in learning from an early age. Schellenberg notes that children who take music lessons in the first place may already be those that are interested in learning, and therefore their IQs would be naturally higher despite the music education. There are also questions about whether the music itself causes a greater aptitude for learning or if the result is caused by activities outside the classroom in general. Students in other extracurricular activities were also tested and the intellectual results were similar
They turn to ADHD medication to help them write more, remember more material, and study for a longer period of time, giving them the advantage over their medication -free classmates. As stated in “Collegian-online,” studies have shown that when one student is taking ADHD medication to gain an advantage over others, it could cause the ADHD medication free students to resort to taking them also to level the playing field
