Unit 7 Assignment: Effective Teams Kaplan University Effective Teams In traditional work environments the managers plan and determine the work that needs to be done. Jobs are narrowly defined and crossing training is discouraged in a traditional work environment. Crossing training is seen as ineffective in a traditional work environment. Traditional work environments risk taking is discouraged and punished. Employees are alone and rewards are skewed to individual performances. However, in a team work environment, the managers and employees work together as a team to determine what work needs to be done and accomplished when. Crossing training is treated as the normally thing. Jobs are made where employees need a wide range of skills and knowledge to complete them in a team work environment. Also in a team work environment they focus on working together in groups to meet goals that benefit everyone. Information is shared throughout the group, not just on the management level. The implementation of a self-managed team at Sandwich Blitz would be beneficially in numerous ways. A self-managed team is a way to respond to competitive challenges. This would also give Dalman more time to focus on the company and things he needs to do to ensure the company can move on to the next level. Self-manages work teams are independent individuals that can who can self-regulate their behavior and work task without being told to do so. Dalman and Lei need to determine short term goals that will lead to long term achievements. This will help them when attempting to incorporate a self-managed team into their company. First this should start with the managers and then it could blossom and eventually lead to both the managers and supervisors to become more self-managed. To establish this goal, first Dalman and Lei need to form the location managers into semiautonomous work group.
