Modern Technology is Hurting Us Ellen DeGeneres wrote “This Is How We Live”, in which she describes her frustration with everyday technology, using specific example to show how “Modern Technology is Hurting Us” (638). I agree one hundred percent with Ellen DeGeneres way of giving us the idea that we are unable to do things on our own. Modern technology is damaging our beautiful world for the reason that is becoming a place where machines and any kind of technological device are more powerful and useful than human being. Cellphone, microwaves, alarm clocks, and internet are four type of technology that has affected the world in a very negative way. What would people do without these things? Cellphones are small devices that have taken so much control over people’s lives; 9 out of 10 people have them nowadays. “There is not one place in earth where a cellphone is not going off” (DeGeneres 640). Human beings have taken cellphone too serious in their lives; they even let those devices control their feelings. For example, I have heard people say they feel empty and sad when they lose their cellphone or when their cellphones goes out of battery. I ask myself: is she/he kidding me or is he/she serious? I have noticed that cellphone are not being seen as devices anymore, but as something that is part of someone’s life. I will never say that a cellphone is not helpful in many cases, because it keeps us communicating with each other; however, “thanks to modern technology” a cellphone has become more than a cellphone. One thing that I never use at home is a microwave; I think it is something that was invented to try to kill people. Just think about it! How can food get so hot in just few a minutes inside the microwave when there is no fire being used at all. It obviously means that the food is being heated with electricity. That’s insane, isn’t it?
