Case Description 7 years-old Medical diagnoses-none but history of ear infections Speech-language diagnoses-developmental language disorder and developmental articulation disorder Behavior and co-occurring behavioral diagnoses—none Personal, family, social, and educational history— Personal- Family-per the case history, both M.M.’s mother and father had speech therapy. No other remarkable family history was noted. The primary language spoken in the home was reported to be English. Social-was reported to have multiple social, emotion, and sensory issues either consistently or some of the time. These included but were not limited to being easily distracted, daydreaming, being forgetful, being clumsy, exhibiting poor posture and tiring easily, often saying “huh” or “what,” mixing up sounds, needing quiet to study, having problems sitting still, having a…show more content…
M has received speech/language therapy in the school setting prior to this assessment. Per the case history, M.M. has a delay in early speech development, limited vocabulary compared to peers, poor grammar usage, problems speaking clearly, and difficulty giving directions. Interests/hobbies/favorite activities-enjoys singing, reading, music, and loves animals. Strengths/weaknesses: weakness-Language sample was characterized by poor syntactic development and frequent use of non-specific vocabulary during the language sample that was obtained as well as for the duration of the assessment. Strength-pragmatics—several age-appropriate social skills as she maintained proper eye contact, exhibited proper turn-taking skills, and displayed proper distance between her and the clinician throughout the assessment. She has inappropriate skills such as changing the subject and making off-topic comments and sometimes dominated conversation.
