Defining Marketing Roger Burnham MKT 421 June 3, 2013 Robin Reis Defining Marketing Marketing’s role in business begins when an individual or company develops a product or service that satisfies the needs of others. One will discuss his or her definition of marketing, and the business definition of marketing. The success of marketing as determine by these definitions, and three companies that apply these methods successfully. These three companies sell the same product and service and market their products with similar ideas. Each company sells pizza, pasta, wings either chicken or buffalo. The companies have several locations in major cities and rural areas in the United States and international locations. Customers can dine in or carry out the product. Delivery service is available in most areas. The promotions of their products are similar but different. Dominos, Pizza Hut, and Papa John’s advertise on television, coupons in newspapers, and on their web pages. The advertisement one likes best is Dominos when a customer is pick up his or her pizza in a tractor trailer. Dominos and Papa John’s sponsor race car drivers as another way of advertisement. The rewards program at Papa John’s when a consumer earns 25 points he or she is eligible for a free pizza. Dominos has the best price for two medium pizzas. Pizza Hut has the best deal on their family box dinner that includes pizza, breadsticks, and cinnamon sticks. These companies use the marketing tools to be competitive with each other. In review one has defined his or her personal definition of marketing and two other definitions the companies would use to market their products and services.
