I now have the opportunity to fulfill my mother’s desire for me to continue my education and reach that goal I made over 30 years ago. The importance of my college education at this time is very significant to me. At my age, by the time I obtain my Bachelor’s Degree, I’ll have reached Senior Citizenship. What benefit will my degree do for me? Out in the workforce, having a Bachelor’s Degree at age 50 will most likely not have any benefit whatsoever; however, I will have attained a goal in which I have had to overcome many obstacles to
Myers-Briggs Assessment Review Gabrielle Brown PSCY101_D16 Professor Peters May 7, 2010 Myers-Briggs Assessment Review After taking the Myers-Briggs assessment, I learned that I have a personality type INTJ (Introverted Intuitive Thinking Judging). The details of my results showed that I am moderately expressed introvert, slightly expressed intuitive personality, slightly expressed thinking personality, and distinctively expressed judging personality. At first glance I was confused as to what this meant, but after reading the information provided in the links at the end of the assessment I was in awe of how accurate the assessment really was. Even with the results seeming correct I could not help but question the fact that it could be wrong or that it might need improvement. I felt that the assessment was correcting in saying that I was an INTJ personality type based on the links that were provided after answering the yes and no questions.
Memory Processes – von Restorff Effect Irwin Abstract The main aim of this study was to investigate the existence of the von Restorff effect. The von Restorff effect, also known as the isolation effect, is the effect of having superior memory by people when shown an unusual or incongruent item among a list of items. It is stated that if a different or isolated item is shown among a list of other items, people will be able to recall the item that is different or isolated more easily as compared to the other items on the list. It is hypothesized that the majority of the participants will demonstrate the van Restorff effect, and not all of the participants will demonstrate this effect. By conducting an experiment that closely resembles the original experiment carried out by von Restorff, it is found that both hypotheses are supported.
Based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) test, I scored in the categories of an Extroverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Perceiving individual. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator was a test created and designed by a mother daughter team, Katherine Myers and Isabel Briggs-Myers who were very interested in human personalities, and why it is that those people preferred something’s over others. What the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator does is that, it “measures and describes people’s preferences for how they like to get information, make decisions and orient their lives” (Myers – Briggs Type Indicator, Unknown). The test is designed to show an individual where they stand in the four categories with the intention of these individuals to find a balance between the two choices given in each category. The four categories individuals are ranked upon are: how we are energized, how we take in information, how we make decisions, and how we approach life.
I was told that this was so because that week was carded for registration of new students. My new semester workload is still perplexing but it is not too much that I cannot handle. We are doing our work just as it is to be done and are accomplishing a lot more working as a class, for the most part. I haven’t encountered any problems in class to date, thank God. Things have really been looking up for me in many different ways; I was offered a part time job at the school itself as a student-employee.
Returning to school has been a dream of mines since I graduated from high school. The different job opportunity and having a better income to support me and my family would make me so happy. Quitting my job of 14 years motivated me to return to school to earn a degree. I want to have a stable and good paying job so that I can save for my son’s college as well. Jobs are hard to find these days, especially when they are seeking a High School diploma or a College degree of some sort.
The Working Class Another benefit of having a job in high school is that teens are better prepared for college. Time management plays a major role on the success of any college student because they will have to divide their time into different sections, for example, to study, to do homework, to go out with friends, some to go to work, or even to catch up on some sleeping. Once in college, everyone is expected to be mature and to know how to make choices on their own; everyone must be responsible for their own acts and the decisions they make. One out of four freshman college students drop out within the first few months of their post secondary education; this shows that they had not ever taken a big challenge before. Obtaining a college degree is important to me because it would enable me have many opportunities to provide a secure future for my family. I have been unemployed for almost 3 years and all vacancies in the newspaper require at least a first degree. With all those college and university graduates these days it’s so competitive in the job market. Although a college education was emphasized all throughout my high school years the motivation wasn't there until I had a baby. I realized that I was no longer living for myself.
Others have just been offered nice jobs with incredible salaries. The rest have graduated from university or high school. All of them organized parties to celebrate some achievements they have got. To me, graduating from high school was an unforgettable moment because I have benefited from high school in the following ways: first, I learned how to struggle with difficult problems, second, I learned how to make a plan, third, I gained respect from my family and teachers, and last, I learned how to become an independent person. Before graduating, I was nervous because I had to struggle with a bundle of hard problems, including math, physic, and chemistry problems.
Some teachers may even let you slide when it comes to pulling your weight if you are a “star” player which only hurts you in the long run. You also sharpen your hand eye coordination. However with all of the advantages there are some disadvantages. Let’s discuss some of those as well. Of course there are the injuries.
