Memoirs of Beautiful Memories Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a cliché' that is accurately stated. Beauty can be seen and un-seen. Without any effort, beauty is easily recognizable in one form or another. For example, a person can have a beautiful spirit about them; or perhaps you have a pet that to you displays beauty and love by a simple wag of its tail. Moreover, there are those individuals, who are very special to us that are to me simply beautiful. My mother was a beautiful person. I remember when I was a little, how she loved sitting outside on the porch in the evenings, just as the sunset met with the night and tell us some of the most wonderful stories. For her, sitting on the porch at the end of the day was one of her favorite ways to relax, while spending time with me and my siblings. Oh, how I looked forward to her story telling!. Another of my recollections was the sweet smell of cooshaw coming from the kitchen. Cooshaw (pronounced coo-shaw) is an old southern desert made from wild squash. It is one of my favorite deserts. I knew she was preparing that dish just for me because my sister and brother did not like it. When my mother would bake cookies for us, I delighted in knowing that she would purposely burn a batch for me. She knew that I liked them better that way. Now, as I reflect back, I have the most incredible smile on my face – same as back them. I specifically remember an occasion, and there were many when I came to her and without saying a word, she instantly knew that something was troubling me. After we talked, she would give me the biggest hug. I felt so safe and secure. Instantly I knew things would be better. I always found it amazing how she automatically knew things; I guess that is how mothers are. Along came a person I referred to as Granny. Granny was special. I met her at my church, Mt. Rose
