Margaret Chou HCom 330 D.Busman The first time we met she laughed in my face. I was skinny and smaller than the other guys. I wore all blue with a huge dolphin plastered to my front. She was beautiful in her sun dress with the pink flowers. Her smile lit up the room and her voice was raspy and sweet. I found out she had been sick for weeks and that she had been depressed for a long time. All she wanted to do was sing but her body wouldn’t let her. I love spotting her at the music store. The owner thinks she’s fun so he lets her hang around all the time. The crusty old men behind the counter show her their tattoos while telling her about their snotty kids. She laughs to be polite but rolls her eyes in my direction after every bad joke. Anytime she walks past me I want to reach out and touch her long silky hair. She smells like soap. We sat for hours looking through music on the internet. When she finally touched me she was cautious as if I was made of glass. She ran her fingers down my neck and with each touch she got rougher and less petrified to hurt me. Our movements were clumsy and there was lots of pausing and repositioning. But soon with every touch I sang with love sounds unlike anything I’d made before. She parades me around campus with a huge smile on her face. She’s so proud to have me on her arm and I want nothing but to be in that very spot. We’re becoming the university’s power couple. There’s no seeing one without the other. We spend all our time together; at the beach, in town, on campus and everywhere in between. We’re in love. We depend on each other for support and comfort. She says “There are so many people and things to love in the world. All we need to do is accept and appreciate them.” She sees beauty in everything.
