Taking into account the opinions of others and listeneing properly to their input will encourage a healthy team and also give the person involved control of whos and what input they would like in their support. Features of effective team performance, are having the team interacting and empowering each other through discussion and suggestion, this enables the team through meetings and every day events to put ideas forward and develop them to see what works and what does not, as some people believe that they way they do things is the only way which is not the case. There are several challenges’ that can form between developing and established teams, as everyone has their strengths but with that comes some allowable weakness. When these are identified it is my job to nurture strengths and set goals to overcome any weaknesses I do this through observation, meetings, supervision and appraisals. Also through ongoing course work to keep up to date with legislation and any changes to legislation to comply with CQC 3.

The program provides adult mentors for children and youth who have one or both of their parents incarcerated in a state or federal prison. Children are matched with an adult volunteer to form a consistent friendship. Mentor/mentee matches spend time together going to the movies or beach, participating in community events, playing sports or just hanging out and having fun. Mentees will spend a minimum of one hour every week for one year with their mentor. All mentors are thoroughly screened through the Department of Justice and complete a reference and Department of Motor Vehicles check.

In Lane County, The Boys and Girls Club of Emerald Valley calls itself the “Positive Place for Kids.” With two locations, Westmoreland and Cottage Grove, they are able to reach a large number of children in the greater Eugene area. The club is open to all children ages 6-18 who pay an annual membership fee of $20. This low membership cost is one of their biggest strengths and attracts many low-income families. During the summer there is an extra charge of $10/day for parents who wish to send their children to summer club that takes place each morning. I have a sponsor that I work diligently with, and have been through the 12 steps. I sponsor other women in the program. I have a job with Community Bridges (detox facility) helping other addicts stop using drugs. I have been working with Community Bridges for the past 7 months and couldn’t be more grateful to have experience to be able to help other addicts and show them that they are not alone.
