McDonald’s VS. Wendy’s Background Information McDonald’s was founded by Ray Kroc in 1955. It was the largest fast food chain restaurant in the world until 2010. Its headquarters are located in Oak Brook, Illinois. It serves more than 60 million people around the world every day. Currently McDonald’s has over 32,000 locations in more than 100 countries and employs about 400,000 people around the world. All McDonald’s restaurants are operated either by a franchisee, an affiliate, or itself. Its main products are hamburgers, French fries, chicken, soft drinks, salads, shakes and fruits. Its key competitors are Burger King, Wendy’s, KFC and Jack in the Box. McDonald’s has provided tasty and affordable food for their customers for more than 50 years. McDonald’s sold its 100 millionth hamburger in 1958. In 1965, McDonald’s celebrated its 10th anniversary with the first public stock offering at $22.50 per share. It went international in 1967, and their first international restaurant opened in Canada. Today McDonald’s restaurants are in 117 countries around the world. After that in 1968, the famous Big Mac was added to the national menu. The Egg McMuffin was added to the breakfast menu in 1975. The popular Happy Meals for children were introduced to the national menu in 1979. In 2009, McCafe coffees including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas were added to the national menu. In 2010, McCafe Real Fruit Smoothies and Frappes were introduced nationally in the U.S. McDonald’s now also provides healthier and various foods for their customers all over the world. It continues to open more stores in where it has never visited. McDonald’s is growing and will be everywhere in the globe in the future.
