As stated in course book, inventing new products or services also creates value (Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman, 2009, p. 248). The increase in the demand for corn farming will increase the value of the land significantly and one could reap great profit if the knowledge is there. I think my colleagues are providing great advice but there is a great deal of information and knowledge missing in order for this investment to be successful. Entering a new business and investing can be very difficult. I think this may be a great purchase to operate a corn farmland but do not think the knowledge is in place to manufacture a corn-based ethanol.
Leaving New York for the Farmlands Scott Albert MBA-540-MBOL7 03/29/2015 To Farm or not to Farm There is a major difference from being an investment banker to running a farm. The colleagues are giving some good advise in that it may be a great business opportunity, but they are assuming that the price of farmland is going to increase drastically due to the demand of corn to fuel plants expected to soar. There are a couple of factors though that the colleagues are not taking into consideration Competition and Alternatives Even if entry is limited, firms within an industry are not immune to outside competition (Brickley, Smith, Zimmerman, 2009, p. 255). The advise given by the colleagues is sound, but without a true understanding of the how running a farm works, investing right into farmland may not be wise. There are going to be many competitors out there, and the goal of living in a peaceful environment may not be attainable.
AGEC 311 Homework The Decision Making Process Step 1 – Identify the Problem The John Deere tractor engine is blown, and a new tractor will cost more than the budget will allow me to spend. Step 2- Identify Alternatives I can use a smaller tractor for the job, but it will take twice as long to complete the work. Also, I can ask a fellow farmer to borrow his tractor if he/she is not using it. Step 3- Collect Information Most small tractors are compatible with a variety of interchangeable parts, making them extremely versatile. They also maneuver easier, while still offering plenty of traction, speed and strength for the job at hand.
Grass-Fed VS. Corn-Fed Stephanie English DeVry Univesity Grass-Fed VS. Corn-Fed What if you were told that the food you eat could lower your risk for heart disease, possibly lower your incidence for cancer and auto-immune diseases and even increase the IQ of your unborn child, would you eat it? What if your child’s behavior will be predetermined by the food you eat would that make you change your food choices? Grass fed VS Corn fed is it a battle we should even debate considering the overwhelming evidence that Grass fed provides the nutrients we need and Corn fed does not. Grass fed beef provides a balance of Omega-3’s which are derived from the leaves, and Omega-6’s which are derived from the seeds of plants, this balance is necessary to provide optimal human health, and will prevent cardiac disease, but will that convince you to eat Grass fed beef or will the cost turn you away and force you to forget about your health and choose Corn fed beef . The corn based agriculture industry exists because of economy to scale and economical production which equates into globalization of food markets.
Investor’s say that the best portfolio to have is a diverse one; well, Viterra has done just that in not only operating on grain trade business, but by also strengthening their company by joining the retail and insurance markets. This enables them to maybe have a weak quarter in one sector, but still make up for losses in another. In executing this environmental scan we learned the importance of competition in the various industries and how it affects stakeholders involved. For example, when the contract was originally drawn up, Glencore was repeatedly questioned by Canadian farmers for their motives of purchasing Viterra. They were weary of the possibility of Glencore selling all the assets of Viterra in an attempt to flip the company; many producers would have went in an uproar because of the lack of competition that would exist following such a movement.
I chose this because if you don’t have faith in yourself and think positive your outcome will be negative. It will affect me by knowing that I did my best if I think positive and work on what needs to be done it would be a success. I am going to a community college to do
Making a right choice for the future education is very important. However, what makes it even harder is deciding whether to attend a community college or a university. Although they both have their advantages and disadvantages, but they both offer the same varieties of knowledge. To consider the best opportunity, we should look at the budget, how much time we want to spend, what level of education we want to obtain. Also, remembering that an education is important, and a college sometimes is a deciding factor for an employer when they are looking to hire someone in.
Technology impacts the environment, people and the society as a whole. The way we use technology determines if its impacts are positive to the society or negative. For example, (POSITIVE IMPACT) we can use corn to make ethanol and this ethanol can be used as fuel. Fuel can be used to run machines and cars which will increase on output of manufacturing industries at a lower cost. (NEGATIVE IMPACT) However, if we decide to shift large quantities of corn to fuel production from food production, humans will be left with no food and this will cause world hunger which even be a worse situation.
He argues that college pressures take away from the experience as a whole; that students are, then, more focused on attaining a secure future rather than truly appreciating the college atmosphere. He argues that college pressures cause “violence [to be] done to the undergraduate experience” (Zinsser 471). His opinion, though, is fairly biased in that it excludes the benefits of such pressure in the long run. Although college pressures may inflict short-term distress, in the long run, these pressures are not only necessary, but also valuable. Pressure such as this is beneficial as it plays a very significant role in the motivation for greater achievement.
In the article Benefits of Earning a College Degree written by EducationCorner they state “Because college gives you a broad range of skills, many college graduates end up in fields that are not what they studied in school. College can open up unexpected opportunities that aren't always there for those who haven't engaged in a higher level of education.”Even if what you studied in college is not what you pursue in life you are still going to have a better time finding a job
