1. Do you think colleges are giving you good advice? Explain. I believe my colleagues are giving me good advice that would probably provide an escape from the city life but may not be good enough to make a sound decision. However, there are many factors that need to be considered prior to making such a big decision. One can assume that the price of the farmland will increase dramatically once the demand for corn farming increases making this a great investment but if the boom in corn farming does not take place, then the purchase of this land could be a loss. According to Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman 2009, they stated that inventing new products or services also creates value. The increase in the demand for corn farming will increase the value of the land significantly and one could reap great profit if the knowledge is there. I think my colleagues are providing great advice but there is a great deal of information and knowledge missing in order for this investment to be successful. Entering a new business and investing can be very difficult. I think this may be a great purchase to operate a corn farmland but do not think the knowledge is in place to manufacture a corn-based ethanol. Based on Brickley, Smith, & Zimmerman’s theory, the opportunity costs would first be determined by giving up my current job to start corn farming. I would be giving up a secure job, with a salary to start a business that would cost more money than I currently have to start, with no guarantee of it being
