What I did to become a trumpet player When I first started wanting to play a musical instrument, trumpet was not my first pick. The first instrument I played was the xylophone, a musical instrument that is made up of stringed, wooden bars in the chromatic scale. Becoming a percussionist did not last long due to certain circumstances. Playing an instrument was the last thing I thought I would ever do for the rest of my life. I was in the 5th grade when the band teachers came to our elementary school to talk about joining band.
Running head: Why I want to be a Nurse 1 Why I want to be a Nurse Sheila Lugo Strategies for Nursing 20 June 2012 Mrs. Taylor Why I want to be a Nurse 2 Abstract A little insight on why I want to be a nurse, starting from when I was little. Why I want to be a Nurse 3 Why I want to be a Nurse Growing up in a family of five, three kids and two adults I have always been told that I can be whatever it is that I want to be when I grow up. My older brother had a lot of medical issues when we were young and I spent a great deal of time with my grandparents on my father’s side. I loved them both so much but grandma was my favorite, she would always ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I remember telling her one day that I wanted to be a nurse. She thought that was the best idea and would tell me all of the wonderful things nurses would do.
When I was in middle school, I decided that I was going to cosmetology school to become a hair stylist and nail professional. When I thought about it, I was thinking that everything was so difficult for me to do since I was a student in special education. While in middle school I always thought that I would never see myself going to a university or a community college. At that moment I just didn’t care about it. My sophomore year I got into a club called “DECA”, which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America.
Here is my education experience in my life time, and how I plan to use my education to better my life. Formal Education Experience My formal education began in Kindergarten when I started attending Wisconsin Hills Elementary/Middle School. At the time Wisconsin Hills was a K-8th grade school so I had to tough it out with all the big kids. After two years at Wisconsin Hills, the grade school moved out and took up residence in a newly renovated school named Swanson Elementary. This is the school I remember most when I think about the beginning of my academic career.
The Highway Ahead I was born the youngest of my parents’ four children, in Berat, Albania. Except for two years when I was five and six years old, I spent my formative years in Tirana, the capitol of Albania, where I benefited from material comforts, excellent schools, and abundant opportunities for cultural and recreational activities. I began my college education in the fall of 1989 at Academy of Beauty Arts, the institute of arts in Tirana, Albania. During the previous summer, I worked on an assembly line at Birra Tirana, in Tirana, Albania. This experience motivated me to avoid that sort of work in the future.
Since elementary school I have been a part of many clubs like the math club, science club, and book club. When I was in the 5th grade I was in the Legal Lives Program, and we had a mock trail. I also got the chance to go to Washington D.C. paid by the district attorney. My work ethic and willingness has been beneficial to me from then to now. At the age of 11 my aunt passed away, so now I use that as a motivation to keep going and apply my mind to want to go to college.
Personal Statement for Law School There is a saying that “sometimes in order to move forward in life you have to take a step back”. My first step back happened rather early in life, when I was almost held back in second grade, but instead placed in exceptional student education (ESC) classes for low performing students. I stayed in those classes during the tenure of my elementary school years .Looking back, my ESE class was where I felt the most comfortable. I still remember my teacher, Mrs. Gonzi, being kind, compassionate and patient to me. I graduated 5th grade and was placed into all Middle School Honor classes.
In this picture book, Farris, shares her memories of growing up with the famous Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Junior. In an introduction the author explains that she knew her famous sibling long before he was famous. The book then gives an accounting of their happy childhood and is realistically illustrated by Chris Soentpiet’s paintings. Every year, for the past five years, I have used of My Brother Martin in my classroom to teach the biography genre and to help my students learn more about the Rev.
Professional Goals Currently I am a registered nurse with an associate degree in nursing. A goal I met some years ago, but I strive for more professionally. I have several professional goals, short term and long term, in which I hope to reach in the years to come. A short term goal I have seems simple enough, after all I achieved it once before. I was in the past a charge nurse in the intensive care unit at the hospital where I worked.
I was enrolled in the Resident Degree Program for two years and decided to transfer into the Adult Degree Program. It made great sense to me for three main reasons; I wanted to work in my field of interest, I believed myself to be incredibly self-motivated, and I had a life vision of what I wanted out of higher education . After looking into the layout of the Adult Degree Program, I decided it was created for a student such as myself. During my last semester in the RDP I noticed most of my classmates were five to seven years younger than myself and did not seem to have the genuine desire to learn. It seemed more like high school.
