Being a Leader

A leader is a person that is willing to take the blame or help you overcome any problem that you may face. A leader is eager to listen to others and to encourage them to be proactive. I, Kymmeon Burdette, am a leader. All my life I have experienced life changing moments and sad times; I have also been present around leadership and leaders, so their leadership skills and maturity influence me. Since elementary school I have been a part of many clubs like the math club, science club, and book club. When I was in the 5th grade I was in the Legal Lives Program, and we had a mock trail. I also got the chance to go to Washington D.C. paid by the district attorney. My work ethic and willingness has been beneficial to me from then to now. At the age of 11 my aunt passed away, so now I use that as a motivation to keep going and apply my mind to want to go to college. After middle school I maintained my good grades and leadership. When I went to the 10th grade I was chosen to be in Georgia Pacific’s YEATL program where we competed against other Aps schools. Now that I’m in the 11th I won’t have to take nothing but one GGT because I passed my entire end of course tests. Also I recently joined the Health Occupation Student Association (H.O.S.A) program where I am training to become an EMT. We go on college trips, compete against other schools all over the district and we get to act out skits based on today’s problems as far as health concerns. Since I have matured, leadership has been effective in my life. I believe you can be born a leader, but I once had to follow another leader to gain my leadership skills. Just because you’re a leader does not mean that you influence people to do right, you have to use your skills for the good. For example, instead of peer pressuring someone to do drugs, you can encourage them to do homework and stay in school. Leadership
