The departmental manager has asked you to write a report describing the physical conditions and risk factors which ships operated by your company are likely to meet on passage from -Passage 3 London to Houston (Texas) in October. With today’s shipping markets being very competitive it is important that ship owners have as much information as possible before each and every voyage that a vessel can take to ensure the safety of the vessel and her cargo but more important to companies and charterer’s is the ships ability to make them money so it is vastly imperative that voyages are fully researched before being undertaken. Looking at the passage from London, England to Houston, Texas we can see there are many variables involved so first of all the passage plan should be made from berth to berth so we know the route (see figure 2) and then divide the passage into geographical areas for closer analysis. London (River Thames) through Dover straits to Bishops Rock North Atlantic up to Turks island passage Caribbean Sea Gulf of Mexico With a distance of over 5000 nautical miles and a transit of the worlds busiest shipping lane (Dover straits) this is by no means a short passage and needs careful planning, execution and monitoring. The start of the passage through the Thames estuary and Dover straits to Bishop Rock is water critical and in dense traffic.
