However, I have met many people that dislike the process very much. Below one will find the answer to what fracking is, why some people think that it is important to use fracking, and what about the process concerns so many people. Fracking is also known as hydraulic fracturing. “Hydraulic fracturing is the process of creating fissures in underground formations to allow natural gas to flow.” (Barnett Shale Energy Education Council) Fracking extracts oil and gas from layers of rock formations deep beneath the earth’s surface. Sometimes, the wells can be thousands of feet deep.
The oceans salt water would mix with freshwater and CO2 would get absorbed into the oceans causing disabling effects on our waters food chain. There may be oxygen poor zones in the ocean, coral extinction, and a decline in photoplankton (Skeptical Science, 2012). Our natural water springs may fail causing people in different areas of the globe to live without drinking water. There could be more wildfires, droughts that cause a loss of vegetation, and heat deaths or floods and storms (Enzler, 2007). The migration pattern of birds and other animals will change, there will be a disruption in our foodchain on land, and the possibility of loosing some species.
What caused this? Today I will have a chance to explain some of my ideas. To support these theories I will mention some documents to help in the essay, so let’s get started. [Doc.A] States: “…Adjacent river and creeks became brackish as water levels rose, reliable sources became scarce…as saltwater transfusion caused introduced filth tended to linger rather than wash away.” This may have caused the colonists to become sick. As the reliable water sources shrank and they were forced to drink the contaminated water.
In South Africa water is used out to its limit, the pollution comes from traffic associated with crude oil transport from the Arabian Gulf which is contaminated from tanks that spill oil. Some ways we pollute the Everglades, is because of some of the stuff that goes down the drains. Most of the stuff goes into a lake, pond, or canal, most these are connected to the ocean and Everglades. We have to watch what we let go down the drains, such as chemicals, and trash. I think if we make a way where trash that goes down a drain can be separated from the water and goes into another drain leading to a dump.
All in all, we are really putting the environment and our lives in danger by using fracking. There can be cleaner alternative fuel sources that we could use rather than fracking. Also, the chemicals and water used in the fracking process can be used for better purposes than harming the environment, such as hydroelectric energy. Fracking poses as a serious threat and if it continues, America will be in a very dangerous
For constructive plate margins, the magma rises up into the gap that created by the plate move apart to form a volcano. After that for earthquakes, after that for the earthquakes, it occur at all three types of plate margins. They are caused by tension that build up at the plate margins, for destructive plate margins, the tension build up when one plate get stuck as it’s moving down past the other into the mantle. Then for constructive margins, the tension builds along cracks within the plates as they move away from each other. At last for conservations margins, the tension build up when plate are grinding past each other get stuck.
There have been reports of the well collapsing and creeping into other water sources where the ecosystem around it has become a ‘dead zone’ for any type of life animal or vegetation. With the wells and the run off of the chemical brings up health and contamination concerns for the people close to these drill sites. The top three issues are currently drinking water, air pollution, and general health concerns. These problems are
More updated methods of accelerating decomposition have been introduced in more recent years, however, these liquids are still potentially leaking. Even state-of-the-art landfills contribute to massive pollution to groundwater. While grasses in the creek Royte describes, act as erosion control and natural filters and some organisms seemed to continue to thrive is such horrid conditions, the author mentions that she later learned that pollutants from the water were showing up in bird eggs and chicks and jeopardizing their long term
Pennsylvania, Ohio, Texas, West Virginia have all had numerous reports of contaminated water due to fracking. In 2012, the EPA stated that "inorganic and organic compounds associated with hydraulic fracturing have contaminated the aquifer at or below the depths used for domestic water supply in the Pavillion area,”(EPA 2012) This study was of a towns water supple in Wyoming where the water supply was contaminated after fracking was started. The oil and gas companies blame improper equipment for the contamination of the water not the actual process of fracking. If this is the issue fracking should be regulated more so that incidents like this do not spill over into other states and poisoning more of our vital water
The extended holding of the waste fluid in the pits could lead to their seepage into the ground, especially if the pits are not lined with plastic. This contaminates the water sources around. In addition, any overflows, for instance caused by heavy rains, allows the fluid to contaminate water in the sources. Large volumes of fluid is required (thousands of gallons of water is used per well) and its disposal is an issue too (Schmidt, 2011). Proper disposal methods should be effected to ensure the water aquifers around do not get contaminated.
