Make Their Day “Go ahead, make my day…” Clint Eastwood, Dirty Harry In following the Fish! Philosophy, we should “make their day”. Making someone’s day is all about making him or her say, "Wow! That felt good." It’s about the experience people have when they do business with you. What will the customer remember about doing business with you? If you went to a restaurant, and the food was great, but the service was terrible, most people believe they’ve had a bad dining experience. Likewise, if they eat out, and the food was okay, but the service was outstanding, most people think they’ve had a great dining experience. The experience a customer has can make an okay product better and a good product great. These same principles can be modified for the classroom. How many times has a student come into the classroom with an issue or problem? Does the extra kindness we show them or concern for the “big football game” on Friday help to make their day? I believe it does, not just in the short term, but also on a daily basis. If students begin to feel that the classroom is a place of support and care, then we did “make their day”. It is not as difficult to do this as one might think. Listed next are some simple ways to not only make the day of our students, but everyone that we might encounter. MAKE THEIR DAY EXAMPLES Give them a hug/ affection opens up doors of happiness Find something to laugh about with them Spend more time with students or co-workers-making them laugh Loosen-up- encourage each other to smile, laugh + enjoy job Go shopping with spouse/child Each individual is different- treat them as if they are the only student you have that day Always have something happy to say to co-workers Accept everyone Enjoy your day, have fun, smile Give that one student special time, only focus on them Spend quality time with student one on one for a few
