We thought that a pH level of 3 would be the optimal pH level for the enzyme catecholase and its substrate catechol to react in. There was no prior knowledge on the effect of pH levels on catecholase and catechol. The results of the experiment did not confirm this hypothesis; instead the hypothesis was rejected by the results of the experiment. The results showed that tube 1 had the slowest rate of reaction, and actually did not react at all. The results showed that tube 2 had the fastest rate of reaction; this tube was exposed to the neutral pH of 7.
Rf = Ds/Df Ds = Distance traveled by the compound Df = Distance traveled by the solvent Materials: coffee filter, tape, isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), water, 3 different color magic markers (not permanent); 3 identical tall, narrow drinking glasses; metric ruler, 3 pencils Pre-lab Questions: List one extensive and one intensive property of marker ink. Intensive - color Extensive - volume Define mixture. a substance made by mixing other substances together. Is tap water a heterogeneous or homogenous mixture? Explain your answer.
| High Fructose Corn Syrup: Too Sweet to Eat? | High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is definitely bad for you. It is also bad for the planet, and I believe that it is a major driver of the obesity epidemic, despite the position taken in June 2008 by the American Medical Association. The AMA concluded that HFCS isn't any worse than other caloric sweeteners and that there is "insufficient evidence" to restrict its use or require a warning label on products that contain it.HFCS is a relatively recent invention for sweetening soft drinks, juices and foods - the production process was developed in Japan in the late 1960s, and the new sweetener entered the American food system in the early 1970s. It tastes sweeter than regular corn syrup, blends well
Liquids don't satisfy as much as solid foods, so people tend to lose track and compensate for the calories in their drink with the calories they eat. It is the most inconspicuous sources of added weight. Stevia is gaining popularity in the United States as a no-calorie sweetener. Sugar replacements are a good way to contain calories. Stevia is all-natural and comes from a plant, unlike artificial sweeteners.
Purpose and Hypothesis The pupose of this project is to investigate how the presence of seed crystals changes the growth rate of rock candy. My hypothesis is that seeding the string will affect the growth rate of sugar crystals. Materials 1 quart saucepan 1 glass container with a lid 2 cups of regular table sugar 3/4 measuring cup a few drops of food coloring 1/4 teaspoon of flavoring (such as peppermint, lemon, cherry or strawberry extract)optional 1 thin wooden stick or string ruler tape or plastic wrap Experimental procedure 1.measure 3/4 of water and pour it in sauce pan. Heat on medium high until it comes to a boil. 2.pour 2 cups of sugar in sauce pan and stir.the solution should look cloudy at first then i will become clear .then keep stirring for 2 minutes 3.After the sugar is dissolved pour the solution into the jar.
The Heterozygotes form of α+ Thalassemia (−α/αα) is deficient of one linked α-globin gene. It is also known as Thalassemia minima. It is clinically normal and has negligible effect on hemoglobin synthesis, whereas homozygotes (−α/−α) produce low level of hemoglobin in erythrocytes which leads to microcytic hypochromic anemia. When both linked α globin genes are absent (−−/αα), the homozygous α0 Thalassemia state (−−/−−) is lethal (Weatherall,
Citrus fruits Citrus fruits are highly acidic. In fact, drinking a glass of orange or apple juice at night isn’t as healthy as you think because of the acid involved. These fruits are rich in vitamins and minerals, but there’s a right time to have them and late at night isn’t. On the other hand, there are some people who can eat red apples without experiencing any reflux symptoms. Hence, it depends on every individual.
No processed sugars and other high glycemic starches because they increase inflammation. Salmon and other fish’s high in omegs 3’s.
It was concluded that the most cost-effective bottle was the Tums Regular Strength due to it containing nearly the same amount of calcium carbonate listed on the bottle with a percent error of 4% while the other products contained higher percent errors. As well, the Tums Regular Strength tablet neutralized the second most amount of acid on
5. Leave out or masks important information, making the health claim sound better than it is? And then each criteria is judged on a scale of 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Bradley critiques an ad for Quaker’s Chewy Granola bars using the five criteria of the Leanwashing Index. Overall the average for all the criteria was a 4.6 showing this ad for Quarter’s Chewy Granola bars is leanwashing a great deal and therefore misleading the consumer.
