Lab Report: Macromolecules Macromolecules are large organic molecules that are typically found as polymer chains which are composed of many monomer subunits. Nucleic acids, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids are all examples of macromolecules commonly found in cells. These are found in all living things. In the experiments we tested organic samples for the presence of nucleic acids, proteins carbohydrates, and lipids. We were given unknown 4, and based on our unknown given our sense observation, besides tastes of course; we concluded that it was high in sugar. We then decided to start with the sugar test first. Milk was extremely high in proteins, and lipids. It showed a negative result for peptides, and starches. Tomato juice tested moderately for peptides and high in lipids, and had negative results for proteins and starches. Ensure showed highly positive for proteins, moderately positive for starches and lipids, and showed a negative result for peptides. Gatorade showed negative results across the chart. As you will see we didn’t include sugar in this chart, which Gatorade tested extremely high in, as well as our other macromolecules. Unknown A, B, C, D are milk, tomato juice, ensure, and Gatorade respectively. As you can see from this chart, we tested sugars. Milk showed a moderate to high result in sugars, as for tomato juice showed a relatively low result for sugars. Ensure was a moderate result in sugars, but still not as high as milk. As for Gatorade, it tested the highest of all, containing only sugar and none of the other macromolecules.
