Asian American Gerald Trahan ETH/125 July 21, 2011 Jere Wilson Asian American The Asian American population of 17.3 million people in the United States as of 2010, which comprised of 5.6 percent of the total population in the United States, was a higher number then I was expecting. And also 2.6 million people that are Asian American that are five and older speak Chinese at home and more so after Spanish, Chinese is the most widely spoken non-English language in the United States. Fifty percent of Asian Americans that are twenty-five years or older have a bachelor’s degree or higher level of education, where it compares to twenty-eight percent of all Americans in that group. This number almost doubles all the other groups. Eighty-five
A majority of more than half of the largest U.S. cities are minorities. Hawaii, California, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as the District of Columbia are states that a majority of their people are minority. In years to come, there will be other states that will be added onto this list. Racial and ethnic minorities will become a big part of U.S. population by 2042 based on current trends. This was found by the (U.S. Census Bureau, 2008, 2010).
These statistics show that ethnic minorities have made up the majority of additional voters, presenting the importance of ethnic minorities in the US political system. In 2000 Whites had the highest registration rates with 72% of Whites registered to vote. Although Black registration rates did increase by 4 percentage points, Black registration was still lower than Whites at 68%. Hispanic registration rates were lower still at 57% and remained unchanged from the 1996 Presidential Election. API registration rates went down from 1996 to 2000 by 5%
“In 1900, nine out of 10 minorities were African American. In 1998, Blacks made up less than one-half of all minorities, and their share is declining. Hispanics, with a 1998 population of 30 million, are the second largest minority, accounting for 40 percent of U.S. minorities,” according to the Population Reference Bureau, (PRB, September 1999). “The U.S. Census Bureau projects that Hispanics will outnumber non-Hispanic Blacks by 2005,” (PRB, September 1999). “Asians accounted for 13 percent of minorities in 1998, while American Indians, Eskimos, and Aleuts made up 3
As previously noted, assets exceeded liabilities by $3.583 billion at the close of the fiscal year, which is $94 million less than in fiscal year ending 2009. The largest portion of the city’s net asset is investment in capital assets. Governmental activities decreased net assets by $253 million primarily because of a 7.5% decrease in sales tax revenue, and $33 million increase in housing and community development. Business-type activities decreased net assets by $118 million primarily because of an operating expense increase of 8.2% and a 5.40% decrease in revenue for the airport system, and an increase 1.9% in operating expenses and a 2.9% decrease in revenue for convention and entertainment (Green,
Catholic Affiliations There was a dramatic change in Religious Affiliation numbers over the years; this is clearly shown when we compare figures from 1901 to 2001. During 1901 there were very few eastern religions while 40% of people were Anglican. When those figures are compared to 2001 statistics, there was a rise in eastern religions and Anglicans decreasing to 18%. The only rise was in Catholic figures. The change of figures was due to the immigration caused by World War II and the Vietnam War.
In FY 2010 VA’s ranking dropped from 16 to 23 out of 28 of the large Federal agencies. Principle corrective strategies should focus on improving communications, education, and competencies on EEO and diversity issues” (Message from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (2010). “High volume of discrimination complaints: The per capita filing rate at the informal stage remained steady at 1.46 percent from FY 2009 to FY 2010 (slightly higher than the government-wide average of 1.39 percent); and the formal filing rate decreased from .76 percent to 0.72 percent (still higher than the government-wide average is of 0.60 percent). While the Department has made some progress in the last couple of years, continued work is needed to reach the government-wide levels. VA experienced an increase in findings of discrimination for FY 2010 (22 in FY 2009 versus 33 in FY 2010).
The figure on the right shows the trend of total population from 1800 to 2005 and from there in three projections out to 2100 (low, medium, and high). The second figure shows the annual growth rate over the same period. If population growth were exactly exponential, then the growth rate would be a flat line. The fact that it was increasing from 1920 to 1960 indicates faster-than-exponential growth over this period. However, the growth rate has been decreasing since then, and is projected to continue decreasing.
The immigrations that are expected to increase are the Asians and the Hispanics. Whites are approximately 69 percent of the population but by the year 2050 the population will be down to approximately 50 percent this is due to low births and the immigration. The Asian population is expected to grow triple then what it is now, which will be approximately 33 million Asian Americans. The Hispanic population is expected to increase their population to approximately 102 million Hispanic Americans by the year 2050 ( Cosgrove-Mathers, 2004). The only way that this country can best prepare for the changing race and ethnicity of the current and future citizens is to get past color.
Furthermore, the non-Hispanic Whites population will slightly decline even with the burgeoning elderly population because of healthier lifestyles and improved health care services available. Hispanics are expected to increase by 188% and account for nearly one-quarter of the nation's population although, The United States Census Bureau believes many Hispanics born in America claim Whites on census surveys. Asians, however, are expected to triple to over 33 million by 2050. Historically, America has been a "Black and Whites" country with Blacks accounting for nearly 13% of the current population. By 2050, the Black population will increase roughly 15%, making them the second largest minority group in America.
