What will you learn if you only hear what you speak? What will you learn if you only see what you see? What will you learn if you were to be the only being on earth? You are here, living, on earth with over 7 billion people surrounding you. It seems to be an easy thing to understand someone’s story, but it is even easier to dismiss the story. I did not dismiss any of the stories that were told to me during my working hours. In fact the stories that were shared has been replaying in my head. Though my experiences there were all over the place I had learned heaps and achieved my mini goals. It was not by one specific story that was told to me by one guest that helped me achieve my goals, it was the many consecutive stories I heard. As a hostess I wanted to make the guests feel important and I wanted them to know that, yes, I was paying attention to them and yes, I was giving a sincere response and empathizing with them. The stories and faces were never the same. Some faces were wrinkled with crows feet and others were tight reflecting youthful age. Some stories that were told were full of intense sorrow and others were full of joy. Acquiring the power of empathy is significant to me because it shows that I am optimistic and not self centered. It also shows that I am capable of absorbing daily experiences and making it into a deeper learning experience. The time period that I had worked at Moksha and Pf Chang’s eased a process of maturation that was much needed. Not only did the period help me in bettering my empathetic skills, in addition it matured my thinking and decision making skills for the next step in life,
