But, her foster parents supported her as much as they could, and encouraged her to become involved in school academics and sports to keep her active and busy. The turning point for the family came one day when Nai was sent to her middle school’s principal’s office for wearing a sleeveless shirt. The principal called Nai’s foster mom to come to the school for a meeting. Nai recalls, “When my foster mom arrived at the principal’s office, she said, ‘My daughter hasn’t done anything wrong.’ She backed me up and supported me.” It was then that Nai realized that her foster mom would, “always be there for me and support
Andrew Carrillo Period 2 Comp/lit II H Mrs. Hodgson The teacher I chose to write about is my sixth grade teacher, Mrs. Hodgson. She taught me at my elementary school, West Covina Christian. I chose Mrs. Hodgson because she treated me with respect, motivated me and gave my class extra recess. Mrs. Hodgson always treated me with respect. It is the most I have ever been respected by any teacher.
The Affect of Culture On Learning Styles and Behavior Nicole Souza Marie’s parents just did not understand. It was Marie’s first time in public school and after years of tutors and home schooling, Marie was smart and bright and going to High school. What Mr. and Mrs Samuels did not understand was why their daughter was struggling in English. She was perfectly prepared for High School. Her parents got the best tutors and followed the most prestigious lesson plans they could find, triple checked that they were teaching her everything, and even went as far as to set up an appointment with every one of her teachers to make sure that she was on the right track.
Her mom always knew her way around a good deal and therefore she hustled to put them in private school. She also traded cleaning services for a neighborhood doctor to make sure her kids had good healthcare. Ursula adds that her mother was her biggest influence for joining Xerox. Her mother Olga was pragmatic, focused and extremely practical, but was the ultimate self determining person. In 1980, Burns first worked for Xerox as a summer intern.
Her mom was a nurse trying to help the family. Edna’s mother encouraged her kids to be independent and appreciate books and music. When Edna was in high school, she was interested in theater. She performed many plays and even wrote a Halloween play that her classmates performed. When she was 20 she entered a poem called “Renascence” in a contest in which 100 poems were picked to be published.
Her mother showed her this. For example, “There were tears in her eyes as she whispered ‘goodbye. Make this day the best you can,’ she said” (93). Melba left for school every day with her mom hugging her and telling her no matter what, she’d be on her side. Going through torment every day, Melba always has hope she can make it through the day.
Geddes’ essay was effective overall and managed to get the point across. There is a transition throughout the essay, from the start of her childhood to growing up into adulthood. The reader is able to understand the respect that she has for her family and community in the beginning and then the harsh reality of the intolerance for diversity as she goes to school. In the end she does realize that she is good enough to go to post secondary despite what people may have said earlier. Believing in yourself and remembering where you come from builds character and you should not let anyone tell you otherwise.
Baby Pedro Ignacio Tellez August 22, 2011-December 24, 2011 Born and Perished in Fontana, California Writing about a physical deformity is a very personal experience for me because of the love I feel for baby Pedro. I remember clearly the joy of Estela’s announcement of her pregnancy, all the plans and festivities to come. I had attended her wedding just seven months prior and now was the next logical step, a new little life. Everything seemed perfect, she wasn’t having any morning sickness and she looked cute with her maternity clothes. During her first trimester of pregnancy she went in for a routine check-up and she was told that there was an abnormality and that further tests were needed “just to be sure”.
However, when I started school I integrated well with the other students and found that many were interested in my Hatian culture. I learned to be a stronger, self confident, and self reliable woman through my experiences during my first school year in America. By the eleventh grade I already had a job and could buy some of the girly things I liked and still go to school. I would not be able to do that if I lived in Haiti and so I appreciate it. In order to be able to
Personal Philosophy Paper Yvette Thompson NURS 502 May 27, 2013 Nursing Defined My philosophy of Nursing was created early in life. I was motivated by the uniform that my grandmother wore on a daily basis. At the age of 10 I began to inquire about the meaning of the cap and why the uniform had to be white and pressed so hard. Grandma Lillian, at that time, stated that to be a nurse you have to follow certain guidelines and have a love for taking care of all types of people. She also encouraged me to start early taking care of my dolls and to start reading easy books about medical issues.
