1. What metaphors are embedded in the title of the movie Life as a House? -George, the main character, always considered himself a house. He always said that he was what he always lived in and it didn’t need to be big or beautiful it just needed to be his. He became what he was meant to be because he built himself a life and a house. He said he was on the edge of a cliff, listening and almost finished, just like the house that they built on the cliff. He also told his son that if he were a house, he’d want to be built on a rock, next to the sea listening to the crash of every wave. He also stated that he had never listened to the sound of the waves before, but now he listening to the unique sound of every wave—meaning that he never paid much attention nor appreciated his life before, but he’s learned not to take a second for granted. 2. What “life lessons” do we learn from George’s life? What is the significance of him being an architect? -Through watching this movie about George’s life, we learned that we can’t expect to be happy without consciously trying to do things that make us happy. He spent most of his life living in a house that he absolutely hated and he finally felt that he built his own life once he tore it down and built a house of his own. Through this we have learned that in order to be happy, we must be the architects of our own life and build the life that we want to live. We also learned that it is never too late to become the architect of own life. 3. What do you think went wrong in George and Robin’s Marriage? Why was Robin drawn to George again? -The reason George and Robin’s marriage went bad was because George forgot how to love, respect, and keep himself happy. He always considered himself a house and he hated the house that he lived in. He didn’t become happy again until he tore down the old house that he hated and
