TDA 2.2: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people Identify the current legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures for safeguarding the welfare of children and young people including e-safety. Safeguarding is the term that has replaced the term Child Protection. It includes promoting children’s safety and welfare as well as protecting children when abuse happens. It has only been developed in the past 50 years, and the need for improved legislation has been highlighted by cases such as Victoria Climbié, who was murdered and tortured by her guardians in 2000. Her death led to a public inquiry and produced major changes in child protection policies.
This assignment will discuss how policies and procedures help children, young people and their families whilst the child is being looked after. Every Child Matters is a shared programme of change to improve outcomes for all children and young people. It takes forward the Government's vision of radical reform for children, young people and families. It is a new approach to the well being of children and young people from birth to nineteen. There are 5 outcomes that were identified to be the most important to children and young people’s well-being.
They will have clean teeth and generally well groomed as they would have had the money to buy these items and will want to maintain a good image. If the y.p eats a well-balanced diet then their overall appearance will be better, better hair, skin and teeth. The general environment will give them the opportunity to use the facilities such as libraries, centres, leisure centres because they wouldn’t have been vandalised or shut down. The y.p will feel part of the community if they can access it and contribute towards it. They won’t feel isolated or fear of going out in case of trouble.
Outcome 1 1, Explain how individuals can benefit from being as independent as possible in the tasks of daily living Being independent gives individual a feeling of control over their life. Individual will feel more comfortable, safe and reassured when they can do things for themselves and this also helps to uphold their self-esteem. Independence can help individual to achieve their life goals. Being independent contributes positively to their physical health. Keeping active is good for all of our body systems.

The All Wales Child protection procedures was originally wriiten in 2002 and updated in 2008 All Wales child protection procedures provides a common set of child protection procedures for every safeguarding board in Wales. The Procedures are divided into 5 parts, covering: • the context for child protection work • what to do if it is suspected that a child is being abused or at risk of abuse • the procedures to follow once a report of suspected abuse or neglect has been made • the management of particular types of child abuse • protocols developed by the All Wales Child Protection Procedures Review Group since 2002.

Working together to safeguard children 2010 it sets out how organizations, agencies and individuals working with children should work together to safeguard and promote their welfare in accordance with the Children Act 1989 and Children Act 2004. It is an updated version of the 2006 Working Together document. It is important that all practitioners working to safeguard children and young people really understand their responsibilities and duties as set out in primarily legislation and associated regulations and guidance. The Every Child Matters policy details the UK government policies and protecting the most vulnerable children with our society. The National Curriculum is for children over 5 years of age.
