Let the classics be classics China as a country has 5000 years history owns its profound culture, which puts emphatic on eclectic. It can be exemplified by four famous novels. That folks such as students, scholars and youngsters are expected to read classics to consolidate theirs literature quality. However, recent years have witnessed some contentious debates around classics readings. Some people retain that classics as the essence of histories should be intensively learned while others stand on the opposite side argue that classics represents conventional and outdated viewpoints that we should abandon it. For my part, as for classics we should take the essence and discard the dregs, namely, we should learn it selectively. On the one hand, classics are heritage of profound cultures which passed down from one generation to generation. Our ancestors put their entire life to perceive the world and finish those classics. A Dream in Red Mansions illustrates Chinese traditionalism and hierarchy. We learners are supposed to put insights into the bright side of it, such as the etiquette and virtues like respecting elders. The Pilgrimage to the West represents spirit of escape from traditions and adventurous heart that we should learn and discard the violence in some plots. One the other hand, everything is never stable. The classics represent the past and our society is developing all time. Truths that are plausible in the past can be absurd to say nowadays. So, we youngsters should learn classics selectively. We should need much new cultures, technologies and ideas, which can benefit our humans to living and developing. To put it into a nutshell, we should take the essence and discard the dregs. Washing old things off and replace with essence in accord with this era. So, we should treat it correctly.
