Dangers of Ineffective Communication in Healthcare Nurses rely on their education, training skills and experience to succeed in their helping profession. At the same time, the ability to read, write and understand is crucial in delivering proper patient care. Ineffective communication skills can seriously harm or kill a patient, as shown through improper documentation, miscommunication and overwhelming job demands. Nurses deal with patients more than any other healthcare professional, as well; much of their time is spent on paperwork pertaining to the patient’s health. Writing must be clear, accurate and legible, together with correct spelling and punctuation.
Mental health nursing is a unique field, under constant scrutiny, perhaps because of the misunderstanding of its science or the misconception about the community it serves. This scrutiny has provided mental health nursing with the opportunity to examine its practice of restraint use and through its history constantly improve its practices. Ethics in nursing is a constantly studied area. The American Nurses Association code of ethics requires that the nurse provide care that is respectful of the dignity and individuality of each patient. Underlining this concept are the nursing ethical principles of autonomy, beneficence, and nonmaleficence (Taxis, 2002, p.158).
Introduction Clinical nurse leadership is an ever evolving and growing field in nursing practice. While there are many different definitions, there are three primary components to being a competent leader: clinical competence, effective communicators and supportive of colleagues (Mannix, Wilkes, and Daly, 2013). To not possess all three qualities can make for ineffective staff training and implementation of new hospital policies. Sherman and colleagues (2011) state that “in the current environment, nurses are often placed in leadership situations without the needed competencies and skills to meet these challenges and other important organizational imperatives. This is especially true for professional nurses who are asked to assume frontline leadership roles such as that of charge nurse.” To put nurses in roles without the training and organizational skills, can lead to disastrous results.
The Feminist theory points out that how Florence Nightingale wrote about her views on women’s rights, and the effort to have self-development (2011). The Feminist theory may help nurses understand how far women have struggled to be self-efficient and to provide understanding of accepting all nurses who demonstrate great knowledge and those that do not. Use of the Concept A review of the literature, was educational and a revelation. The search was short, however, intense. The concept of horizontal violence is so wide spread within the nursing profession, it is hard to understand how a nurse, who is a caregiver, who is highly educated can treat another nurse so profoundly.
Both seem to be making a conscious decision about right and wrong and a practical decision about the impact of a baby on their lives. Each of the couples and the doctors were faced with conflicts on multiple levels involving both individual psychological needs and differences of values. These conflicts required resolutions that were interpersonal (ethical decisions for both parents and physicians), intrapersonal (between the parents themselves) and intergroup (between parents and the medical communities that served them). The causes of the conflict in the stories were values of the people. They believed that abortions were okay even though they knew they were being put in situations in which there was a possibility of them having multiple fetuses.
But, why has the issue of nurse-to-nurse hostility become of vital concern now? The violence issue has always been seen as a concern in the healthcare setting; however it is becoming more emphasized and relevant due to the recent shortage of nurses and the heightened awareness of work place violence and harassment. According to Embree (2010), disruptive performances related with lateral violence
However, it's not always true that another nurse is doing the right thing. Situations arise that can lead a nurse to make mistakes and set a poor example. Advocacy 2. Advocacy ranges from activities on behalf of patients, such as hand washing and proper identification before treatments, to arguing that an early discharge will harm her patient's recovery. If a nurse observes a practice or procedure she believes to be wrong, advocating for her patient demands she speak out even if that practice was carried out by her superior.
It is simply a thing one must do in order to survive, but there are other cultures and individuals that may think that this is a private matter and should be done behind closed doors. In our society women dress and take explicit photos yet people rarely even bat an eye to this. There has been much controversy surrounding women and breastfeeding in public. Breastfeeding mother become under fire for doing what they simply feel is natural. I believe that this unnecessary storm could potentially daunt women from breastfeeding.
Nurse Advocacy Steele (AnnMarie) Public Policy and Issues in Health Care Abstract In the ever changing world of healthcare, it is of upmost importance nurses today become involved in the policy process at the legislative level. To protect the profession of nursing, the rights of the patient, and to provide quality care at the bedside we must have our voices heard. The problem with this, more often than not, is nurses are not prepared to speak out in such a public venue, nor are they versed in the legislative process. The Missouri Nurses Association provided a day of learning titled Nurse Advocacy Day, in which the focus was to provide a basic knowledge to several hundred nurses who attended, the who, what, why, and how nurses should
The five rights of delegation. We will discuss the legal implications that nurse may face if delegation is not handled proper. I truly believe that delegation is a very important part of nursing, as a nurse we cannot properly care for every need of our patient’s at all times. With the assistance
