“Leadership of Richard Branson” Jennifer Olvera Dr. Robert Miller Modern Management December 15, 2014 Olvera 1 As a pioneer thinker, Richard Branson firmly established many industry practices by turning the traditional business model on its end. From an early age his approach to business became the hallmark for most of his ideals that forbade adversity to stand in the way of accomplishing his intended goals. Branson’s management style defines him as being a visionary leader unafraid of taking risks and challenging conventional practices altogether. Instead, he embraces corporate culture and encourages creativity through his personality and charisma to view things in a positive way (Ahmed, 2011). Further analysis of Branson’s leadership style describe his approach as that of a more transformational one. In this type of leadership, the leader continuously anticipates futuristic trends, develops future leaders and actively provides an ongoing inspiration for employees to look forward to future possibilities regarding long-term goals and recognition (Ahmed, 2011). If we take a look into Richard Branson’s founding organization the Virgin Group and how it has been impacted, we can certainly characterize some of these components relating to that transformational leadership style. For instance, in one component relating to the individualized consideration of employees, the leader presents them self as a mentor who listens and attends to any concerns requiring attention. That mentor also encourages an open communication to be available at any time.
