I did not realize how easy it is to unintentionally use bias language. Specifically, careless use of pronouns, subject-verb agreement, using open-ended age definitions, or how the order of presentation of groups can show superiority over others is all examples of errors I commit in my writing. Chapter 3 of the APA Manual will serve as a useful resource not only throughout my career, and for future writing I undertake. It provides a clear explanation of the essential components of sound expository writing and I walk away with more attention, and to pay careful attention to in my future
As history has shown, in software, this limitation, however ethical it may be, is close to useless in protecting the inventor. There are only so many basic inventions in software. The most notable ones are word processors, spreadsheets, databases, and the graphical user interface (GUI). This means that if you invent the first spreadsheet, the UI may be copyrighted and the particular implementation of the functions behind it can be protected. But, this does very little in protecting you against some other guys writing a spreadsheet which is more user friendly, calculates faster, and provides more functions, even though you were the inventor of the spreadsheet.
These non-verbal messages that we send are eye contact, facial expressions, voice tone, rate of speech, silences and pauses, hand gestures, body positioning, and body distance. It is astonishing how complicated and how simple communication between cultures and genders can be. There are very successful people that have the ability to tap into the 90 percent of communication that reaches and leads people. The reason being is because today many people do not understand the messages being used verbally and many people are reacting more by using non-verbal communication. Communicating with different cultures can be very complicated and very misunderstood for the obvious reasons of language barriers, but communicating with different genders can arise some difficult challenges.
For example “While this analysis does not examine mammography-related outcomes because of the level of depth and breadth of information collected with respect individual level SEP, neighborhood level SEP and perceived racial discrimination” (148). Here the authors use the words SEP and monograph to specifically state what their analysis concerns to. By adding complicated words and phrases to their sentences the authors do not make it easy for their ideas to be conveyed across, but by not being direct and straightforward stimulates/ portrays to the reader that the author has a deep understanding of the idea at
Good communication skills are crucial in all walks of life. Lack of effective communication skills can negatively impact an individual’s personal as well as his/her professional life. It is not just about speaking effectively or in an impressive manner. A person that continually goes on and on without ever stopping to listen to the others is not a good communicator. Listening is a vital part of communicating and is often overlooked by most people.
The purpose of this text is almost impossible to determine for sure, however I believe it is trying to encourage readers to look beyond their own ordinary lives and consider what they might be like from a different perspective. More specifically, what it might be like for immigrants coming to our country and having to adjust to our culture. When it comes to target audience, I do not believe that this text was directed toward any specific age or social group. It’s very accessible for readers of all cultures due to it lack of cultural specificity; it also has a wide range of components which appeal to all ages. The biggest, most predominant issue being addressed in this text seems to be immigration.
Will Carlson Politics is an extremely complicated subject to do research on because there are so many variables. Details are vague and people are either interested or not, this makes research a little bit easier. People’s views can be misconstrued and wrong but either way it’s their opinion and you have no right to change that. For that reason it’s a touchy subject for some people because they may not want to divulge any information. When researching politics I find that it’s best to be neutral to not stir up any confrontation that will hinder your research.
This question does not suggest that your audience is stupid or uneducated. As we saw in Chapter 1, there is a great deal of confusion today about such matters as free will, truth, knowledge, opinion, and morality. Many intelligent and educated people have fallen victim to ideas and attitudes that cripple their creative and critical faculties. In many cases, your audience will appreciate your insights only if you first help them get beyond their misconceptions. Is Your Audience’s Perspective Likely to Be Narrow?
Many intuitions use peer-reviewed articles as credible sources. Another reason that Wikipedia is not a credible source is because most of the articles are one sided. Without presenting both sides of the arguments, a person cannot understand both sides of the story and that will bring confusing when you are dealing with situations. Also, Wikipedia do not provide crucial parts of the sources reasoning. With this they cannot complete a reasonable account of the argument a person is trying to work out.
363) as stated by Peter Nicholson. Media outlets are readily accessible and can provide the specific information needed at such a rapid pace; however this is largely responsible for a decreasing aptitude to discern any meaningful knowledge from a written body of text despite being able to read it. There is differing degrees of illiteracy but all can have a multitude of adverse effects – the very worst being preventing an individual from making decisions regarding their well-being and more mild effects which would involve impeding an individual from maximizing their potential contribution to society. Post-secondary school offers many examples of illiteracy and some of the motivating causes of it. “Sentence-paragraph prose
