Betrayal at its best?-Insert Title Here The relationship between family and friends are dwindling due to the fact that betrayal commonly takes place, especially when factors such a jealousy cloud the better judgement of people. The Kite Runner is a story about a guilt ridden character whose name is Amir. He tries to win his father’s love, but faces many obstacles that eventually lead into betrayal towards the people he loves. In the novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the theme of betrayal is consistently seen through Baba and Amir’s actions as Baba keeps many secrets from his family, Amir turns his back on Hassan and then later when Amir disappoints Sohrab. Firstly, the theme of betrayal is evident through Baba’s actions as he keeps various secrets to himself which revolve around the people that he loves. For instance, Ali, Baba’s best friend, servant, and adopted brother, is an example towards Baba’s betrayal as Baba has the audacity to cheat on his own wife and have an intimate relationship with Ali’s wife, Sanaubar. As a result, Sanaubar flees five days after she gives birth to Hassan, a boy that has a harelip as a birthmark. “…and just five days later, she was gone. Baba hired the same nursing woman who had fed me to nurse Hassan. They say there is a brotherhood between people who’ve fed from the same breast,” (Hosseini, 78). Due to the fact that Baba hires the same woman to feed Hassan exemplifies the fact that he is betraying Ali, Hassan and Sofia, his wife. This is seen as it is ironic that Hassan and Amir share a brotherhood because they have fed from the same breast, they will always remain brothers. To include, Sofia and Ali are victims of Baba’s betrayal as Baba went behind their backs by having sex with Sanaubar. Thus, Baba’s actions portray that Hassan, Amir, Ali, and
