Examples of the neglect shown by his father are that of the time when Bob refers to Blacky as a ‘gutless wonder’, and the journey we take through the story of Blacky’s deteriorating respect for him. The ‘gutless wonder’ incident was a influential part of the novel, as Blacky realises that his Dad isn’t one to take advice of someone he feels is inferior than him, thus saying, ‘My own son, a gutless wonder. A gutless fucking wonder!’ When Blacky explains to his father about the storm, Bob insults him rather than swallow his pride and takes his son’s advice on board.
Amir is the character that is extremely similar to his father Buba, because they both have committed sins in their past. Amir by, watching Hassan his own half-brother get raped or Buba, having sex with his servant’s wife. In the beginning of the book Amir is a person who won’t stand up for himself let alone for any of his friends. Amir is a very selfish and un-loyal person to Hassan, whereas Hassan is a very loyal and selfless person. Although it all changes when Amir and Buba moves to America some of sins from the past still continue to haunt the future.

The problem with Bone is that he is scared of his stepdad. Bone’s stepdad threatens him by saying some nasty words to him like, as he says “all the time he said he’d cut off my d*** if I told” (pg. 196). I think what makes bone leaves his family is that he doesn’t want anyone to know about the times when his stepdad abuses him. He is afraid of what the society would think of him just like when he says “no one’d believe me” (page 296).
He doesn’t like to be the only one blamed as he shows here: “(with marked change of tone)… I thought that – for some reason best known to yourself - you were making the most of this tiny bit of information I could give you. I’m sorry. This makes a difference.” He shows that he does not mind if he doesn’t have to take full responsibility and says that it changes everything. Arthur does not like to take all the responsibility. Also, he is afraid for his family here and their reputation.
