According to McCarthy, Mueller, and Wrenn (2009), “since 1945, Kaiser Permanente has become the largest not-for-profit, integrated health care delivery system in the United States, serving 8.6 million members in eight regions: Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, the Mid-Atlantic States, Ohio, and the Northwest (p.2). The mission of Kaiser Permanente is to provide affordable, high-quality health care services to improve the health of members and the communities it serve. Kaiser Permanente of Ohio is the only hospital in Cleveland that offers a union to employees, which increases chances of having job security. In addition, Kaiser Permanente is the highest paying hospital for employees as well as free benefits to employees. Additionally, the organization is the only hospital in which offers health plans to members and individuals within the community. The greatest achievement is helping individuals without health coverage stay well by having several programs in place to offer transitional help for individuals in financial needs. The Transition Plan is an HMO product including a prescription drug benefit that helps reduce monthly premiums (Kaiser Permanente, 2011). Having a community partner helps Kaiser Permanente to identify low-income individuals in which are not eligible for Medicaid and Medicare. The community partner helps individuals apply to the Transition Plan. In addition, the Ohio Region has an Access to Care Program called Healthy Connections Network in Akron, which assist individuals that are ineligible for other assistance programs. Many patients in which has a medical home are more likely have better continuity of care and less likely to need high-cost emergency care services (Kaiser Permanente, 2011). All employees are given a binder with policies established by Kaiser Permanente. In the binder the procedures have a step by step of actions to take when he or she encounter issues within the organization. These policies and procedures must be followed at all times to ensure that the organization complies with federal and state laws and regulations. Additionally, policies and procedures are in place providing quality of care to patients. Trainings are held quarterly, which assist employees with following the policies and procedures of the organization. Audits are conducted monthly to reduce systematic errors in which will require supervisors to notify employees to repair the mistakes before the next month audits.
