Ramos 1 Research Paper It’s finally the first day of college and you’re nervous about going to your first class. The first thing you do when you enter the classroom is sit in a corner, away from everyone. You’re first year of college is scary because you find yourself alone and it feels like you’re a freshman in highs school all over again and you have to meet new people and create new friends and form a stronger bond with them. Where do you start? And how do you do it? One good way is joining a club or an organization in the college. Usually you join a club that sparks your interest, such as an athletic club but in this case I’m talking about joining a cultural club, something that defines you as a person like your ethnicity. You’ll find that in joining a club, you’ll experience get to experience, Social Interaction; such as meeting new friends, Assistance; like finding new peer groups that’ll help you in your field of studies, and discover Growth; members in the club encouraging and supportive in your own personal growth such as discovering things about yourself and new found interests. Social Interaction: Your first instinct about going to college is to go partying and meet new people but then you find yourself socializing outside of school too much and not focusing on your studies and not getting any studying done. So when you join a club, especially one that involves a similar culture, you’ll get to experience Social Interaction. When striking a conversation it’ll be easier for you, it’s sense of being in your own comfort zone. Being in a new and unfamiliar environment is never easy. So when it was my freshman year and college and I remember attending my first club meeting. The club I chose to join in is called, “The Bayanihan Club.” It’s a Filipino heritage type of club in the University of Hawaii at Hilo but they also encouraged other people to join
