MEMO Date: December 12, 2011 To: CEO From: Re: Lead levels exceed standards in whistles An issue was raised the manager of the QA team where some of the toys, specifically whistles part of the toy collection scheduled have lead content that exceeds that allowed by current standards. Shipping these substandard toys without could damage to the image of the company, even if shipped to South America. I have taken into account the business and its stakeholders. This has included the effort and financials incurred for several remediation actions. I have also considered legal and moral responsibilities to our customers. We pride ourselves on the business ability to exceed highest quality standards to our customers. This has built an environment of trust. Our reputation and image should be a high priority in action that we take. After careful consideration of possible options three viable options are highlighted that I feel would maintain the trust and our reputation with our customers. 1. Remake the whistle in question and repackage the entire collection 2. Remove the whistle and ship the collection with a replacement toy 3. Keep the whistle included but add a separate replacement Any solution that we choose should consider the highest customer satisfaction and thus provide our customers with the care, consideration, and ultimately value that they have come to rely on our company to provide. It should consider our business and shareholders and minimize the total cost to the company. I will talk about each option separately before my final recommendation. To remake the toy that has failed standards and repackage the whole collection, would provide our customer with what they ordered and keep intact the current relationship. On the down side, it is a significant enterprise and would cost a great amount of labor and time. Our
