“Is masturbation sex? Would you support the act? Provide philosophical arguments to justify your answer.” This essay examines theoretical and empirical literature on masturbation and its contrast to it being the same act as sex. Masturbation is not sex, however, the act is supported. Evidence such as differences between masturbation and sex , medical benefits of masturbation, philosophical theories, political and social philosophy as it relates to conservatism (where conservatism is defined as a political and social philosophy that promotes retaining traditional and social institutions) ,religious and cultural beliefs / views (such as the Roman Catholic who believe that masturbation is an immoral act, and by defying their concept of the natural law to prove that masturbation should not be viewed as unnatural ), situation ethics and virtue ethics will be used to substantiate it’s acceptance. These terms, evidences and theories will be used to critically analyze the act of masturbation and why it should be considered as being moral or a natural process of any one person’s lifestyle. Masturbation is the sexual stimulation of the genitals usually to the point of an orgasm. This practice is focused on the genitals ( female- clitoris and male- penis specifically the glans which is the most sensitive part on a male phallus ),rather than insertion or penetration. On the other hand, sex or more biologically termed, sexual intercourse, coitus or copulation is the act of procreation between a man and a woman. In such a case, the penis is inserted into the vagina and excitement or stimulation along with motion copulation is maintained until an orgasm is succeeded.
