Communication is very important to meet the needs of children. When we communicate we are able to make relationships and also develop existing ones. These relationships may be with parents, carers, children or colleagues and are needed to make a good first impression. Communicating with other staff members in a professional manner will ensure effective team work and that any current situations with regards to a child will be passed on and reported.
Explain how communication affects relationships in the work setting : We need to build relationships with the people we look after, their families and work colleagues to enable us to work effectively. Good communication will help build good relationships. Communication is very important in the work setting as we need to communicate with the residents to know what their needs are and we need to communicate with colleagues to pass any information on to them. Describe the factors to consider when promoting effective communication : Its important to show that you are listening to the other person when they are talking. You need to be aware of your posture and body language while assessing theirs so you can respond appropriately.
Effective communication affects all aspects of work as it is a way of developing personal relationships with service users and their families so you are able to meet their needs. It is important to develop positive relationships with work colleagues and other professionals, sharing information and having the information you need to be able to report on your work. This can only be achieved through effective communication. It is important to use different types of communication such as verbal, non verbal (body language, expression, signs, symbols or other visual aids) to clearly understand an individual’s needs and wishes. 1.3 Explain why it is important to observe an individual’s reactions when communicating with them.

Carers usually have hand over at the beginning of each shift and also complete communication books after attending an individual, thereby keeping other staff informed and aware of current situations within the workplace. People who have good communication skills are likely to have strong relationships with children, parents and other adults. Because relationships are influenced by the body language, facial expression and ways in which others listen and talk to you.
However, more usually a person wants to communicate to another to ask for something, for example, they might want a drink or some food, or need help with a task. Communication can happen to find out information, to ask and respond to questions, to give information and to give instructions. The service user and the social worker need to understand each other clearly in order for the service user to receive the best possible care.
