The Internet is a technology that changed the way we read. The Internet causes us to loose focus or to just skim through information really quickly. The need to get information quickly, rather than spending the time to read a book, is due to the Internet. When I need to read something for a class I would much rather go to Spark Notes on the Internet, rather than read a complete book. The Internet has helped reading to evolve.
It is basically a place wherein people exchange different sorts of information through written works. The World Wide Web is considered as the Library of the internet since Web Pages act like books wherein we could get the information that we want. All we need to for us to be able to access the World Wide Web is to access it through the internet. We can use computers or other mobile device that has capability to access the internet. Some of the common use of World Wide Web is to gain knowledge in research.
People are also able to distribute information to a lot of people in very little time. Because of its convenience, a large number of people use the internet on a daily basis. The internet is a very wonderful tool for children to use as long as it is being used responsibly. But what happens when it starts being used irresponsibly? When it is used irresponsibly, it fluctuates into a dangerous tool to use.
Internet Impact on Society In “Hal and Me” written by Nicholas Carr, Carr discusses how the Internet is impacting each individual that is using the Internet. Carr took his own intellectual journey in 2007 and realized he was experiencing difficulty in focusing on his work. His main concern was the difficulty he was having particularly on careful and concentrated reading, thinking about that reading, and writing carefully about it. Carr made a conclusion that the Internet itself was impacting his ability to concentrate and something had to change. In “Hal and Me”, Carr uses examples and personal experiences to relate to the positive and negative impacts the Web has on society in general.
The Dangers of the Internet The internet is a network that connects computer networks from all over the world. It began to really crawl its way into homes in the 90’s and has been a part of everyday life since. Although, as children and teens begin to explore all there is on the World Wide Web, there are some concerns that parents should be aware of. In the text “Wrapped Up in the Web: The Dangers of Teen Internet Addiction” by Sue Scheff, she highlights some of the main points on why the internet should be treaded carefully. Ranging from internet addiction, sexual predators, social issues, health problems, and information on subjects that people of certain ages should not find.
Memo To: Laura M. Smith From: Lakia M. Hairston CC: Date: November 2, 2009 Re: Ethical, Legal and Regulatory Differences Today, the popularity of the internet has been the foundation of new business, e-business. Just about anything can be done online now. Many people are reverting from shopping in stores of malls because of the convenience of the internet. You can do anything from balancing your check book, to ordering pizza online today, which is making the internet a big part of most peoples lives around the world. Businesses are making transactions with other businesses online eliminating extra time and wasted money.
He attributes this feeling to the extensive use of the internet and computers, even though this usage of the internet has been to help him write. Carr then notes that he is not the only one having this problem. Carr gives a few examples of bloggers that have said the same thing about reading long articles. Carr suggests that though the internet provides more reasons for us to read, they are different reasons. The internet may not be the source of the problem, but Carr refers to a study done by a college that suggests that there is a chance that it is.
How can those factors be managed? The three huge factors contribution of theft of time in the work place is the internet, mobile phones and smoke breaks. • The internet is probably the most taking advantage of when it comes to theft of time because you can use the internet for almost anything like for researching, news, shopping, social sites, etc. Because the internet is now a part of our everyday lives, it can become a natural instinct to utilize the internet but employees must be mindful of internet usage on company time especially for personal use. Employers can manage internet usage by blocking employees from accessing certain sites (i.e.
Tevin Hutchinson 11/10/2012 English 102 Technology plays a huge role in our everyday life. I do believe that technology has made our lives easier, but it also has made us more dependent on the technology itself. When using the internet for a dictionary you could easily get distracted. Anyone can put anything on the internet, so what you find might not be accurate. Most people find that looking things up on the internet is distracting because you are already on the web so why not check YouTube for a funny video, or update your status on the social network.
We are just as busy in our offline lives as we are on the Internet. For example, before the Internet and smartphones, a regular landline telephone had an extremely long cord enabling us to multitask and do other things while having phone conversations. Additionally, the pages of a book only have text on it, while internet pages have advertisements, pictures, colors, sounds and moving images to distract our minds from concentrating fully. This constant interruption we have come to know with the use of the Web is lessening our ability to fixate on one thing at a time. Something else that is new to us is how quickly scanning and surfing through short passages of text from multiple sources has become the norm for absorbing information these days.
