“Into the Electronic Millenium” Sven Birkerts Most individuals, if not the world, may consider technological innovations and advances to be a beneficial aspect in our contemporary society. However, according to Sven Birkerts in his article, “Into the Electronic Millennium,” the assimilation of technology into our society has only affected us negatively. On one hand, the usage of these modern gadgets has caused detrimental effects to our daily language, altering the way we speak and communicate for the worse. On the other hand, such electric components have also provoked a loss of value for privacy as well. In accord with Birkerts ideals, I too, agree in the detrimental effects evoked from such technological advances.
The reveal of the plans for the Olympic lanes was controversial and led to protests led by taxi drivers infuriated that they were unable to use the lanes. The protests caused further delays, produced noise pollution and policing was necessary to keep the protest peaceful, costing the government. However, the introduction of Olympic lanes does have social benefits. For example, additional jobs are created, thus increasing employment levels –a constant macroeconomic government objective.
Why is technology so harmful to us? Isn’t it supposed to help us advance our world? Yes, it does help makes the world more advanced and faster, but it also makes people behave morally wrong and become more dependent of technology. The advancement of technology can’t be stopped but doesn’t mean we can’t restrain ourselves from being completely dependent and obeying it. The advancement of technology corrupts young mindset and education.
Innovation is usually a catalyst that spreads change and adaptation throughout the industries it touches. Like a virus it moves from one industry to other helping to create the economic system stronger. Because early adaptors of innovation make market advantages such strategic incorporations are sought, accustomed and capitalized on. Great ideas create great interest and stretch quickly even when new innovations are concealed by the industries that develop them. A large number of people understand the need to understand and adopt new innovations when they are beneficial but not many understand what happens when such innovations do not succeed.
There are many people that will be involved in this decision and it is not a decision that is to be taken lightly. There is all aspect of things that an organization can benefit from when implementing an information system. The biggest thing of all that an organization needs to look at when looking to implementing an information system is will it allows us to grow, will it allows to be more efficient. All of these things have to be looked and thought through carefully. The goal is that the new information system implementation will allow the company to provide better care for the patients, as well as for the company.

What needs to be kept in mind however, is that if the unplanned and the unintended consequences of technological innovation become dominant, it becomes a problem for the society, organisation and individuals.
