Indifference is the cause of many ill in a society Indifference is without interest or concern and not caring. In a society there are many ills due to people indifferent attitude toward the suffering of others. In today the word indifference mean to people are lack of respect to other people existence or plight and a total lack of feeling toward other folk, or happenings. Back in China people often said same refrain " respect the old and cherish the young" is a traditional Chinese virtue, but when something bad does happen people tend to show their indifference attitude. Sometimes is easy to said then doing it. Because people are selfish, they only care about themselves, in order to put end to indifference, we should look around ourselves and see just what difference we could make by just applying a little feeling and compassion toward our fellow being. One of the basest of all human qualities is selfishness. It is true that there is a natural tendency for everyone to be selfish. But if we become excessively selfish, then we become anti social. Happiness in human society depend on the level of the selfishness. Our indifferent attitude create selfishness to make more illness in a society. Take the 2 years old Chinese girl left bleeding in a road after being run over by two different vehicles and then ignored by 18 passersby and died for example, because these indifferent attitude and their selfishness lead that girl to death. We ignored the rights of others. In other words we become very in considerate of our fellow-beings. We try to make our own life happy and comfortable one. To achieve this we are prepared to bring hardship and inconvenience to other people. In "The perils of indifference " by Eliezer Wiesel, he mention " Roosevelt was a good man, with a heart. He understood those who needed help. Why didn't he allow these refugees to disembark? "
