Improving Your Self- Concept 1. Define one change that you would like to make in yourself. It might be behavior or anything about yourself that you would like to alter. One change about me that I would like to change it my reading habits. I do not read other than what I have to on a daily basis. I remember when I was allot younger and use to read all the time 2. Write down a specific goal for making that change. Make sure that it is realistic and fair. Use affirming, motivation language. Some specific goal for improving the amount of time I spend reading it to read about half hour before bed. I need to go to the library and find a book that catches my interest and pulls me in. 3. Observe or think of others who are models of what you want to be. Write down what they do My roommate is a great model for reading. She does not watch allot of movies but instead she reads the book. She says that the book is often better and more detailed than the movies are. She sits in a chair in her room and reads so much. She said that she would help encourage me to read if that is what I really want to do. 4. What context or setting is required for you to achieve your goal? I need to put a certain amount of time aside every night to read. I can help reach my goal by placing the book on my night stand so that it is in sight every time I try to go to bed. I really need to just shut the television off so that I don’t get into a movie or show. 5. Identify potential barriers to the change. One huge potential barrier for stopping me from achieving this goal is me. Lack of commitment, being stuck in my old ways for so long, and just not wanting to take the time to put into
