Since Washington’s Farewell Address, the US has always had a tendency to recede back to an isolationist stance in regards to foreign affairs. However, in the 20th century, the US began to take a more interventionist approach to foreign policy. After both World Wars, America took an interventionist stance, although after the First World War, America was predominantly isolationist. The post-Second World War era of the US arguably experienced a much stronger and wider form of interventionism. But nonetheless, this shift in foreign policy from isolationism to interventionism after both World Wars is significant because it marks the gradual change in US foreign policy that would continue for the rest of the 20th century and onwards.
Goya presents us with a dark vision of innocent Spaniards executed by a Napoleonic firing squad. In the 19th century, civil strife had arose in Spain, and Spanish citizens, like Goya, welcomed the French who were to bring political reform. However, Napoleon Bonaparte, the emperor of the French, was not interested in aiding but rather invading the country. Cubism and Pop Art Cubism and Pop Art are both products of the twentieth century. As the world moved into and through the twentieth century there were major changes in people’s life styles, beliefs and values. As the twentieth century progressed there were two major wars, the Depression, women’s suffrage movement, Prohibition, Korean Conflict and the Cold War as well as the Vietnam War. With these changes came changes in the visual art, literature, music and architectural worlds. Cubism came about during the early part of the twentieth century and Pop Art came during the late 1950’s.

Impressionist paintings demonstrated that human beings do not see objects, but instead see light itself. Randi Shafer American History I Extra Credit Assignment John Peter Zenger and Freedom of the Press The 18th Century trial of John Peter Zenger was a huge step towards the development of freedom of the press in early America. As editor, John Peter Zenger allowed lectures criticizing government rulers to be published. “Some articles accused the governor of an assortment of crimes and basically labeled him an idiot.” (Website 2) In addition to this, advertisements were printed on the back page which did not shine a very positive light on one man in particular, Governor William Cosby. After a couple of months, the paper was shut down by Cosby and Zenger was arrested. Zenger was charged with libel and taken to trial.

Baroque of Rococo art was rejected by artist at that time when the art of ancient of Rome and Greece had appeared again. Neoclassicism was meant to emphasize rationality and the rebirth of tradition. Artists during that time began to use mythology and history as the main subject in their paintings. They created some classical styles and subjects such as columns, pediments and others in their artworks.
