The main examples of these diseases are: Poor mental helath Coronary heart disease Obesity Lower back pain Osteoporosis Diabetes Some cancers Increasing physical activity across the population is a key, current, public health initiative because the benefits of reducing these diseases is self-evident. A key goal of families, professionals and legislators is to help children develop into adults with good mental and physical fitness. I am planning on furthering my education by attending Concordia University in the fall. There I will be taking Exercise Science that leads to a gym teacher career. This program specifies on how the body works in relation to physical activity and even more the body’s response to sports whether positive or negative. I am very interested in sports, especially hockey, and my current educational goals, interests and the courses I have taken will lead me to a idea for my final project. There are many classes that I have completed that I have no interests in and do not see myself doing a large project on.
There is a historical attachment to this issue as Canadians have always been a “branch plant” of another country, namely England and France. Even from an early stage, the Canadian culture has never had the chance to flourish as it has been eclipsed by another powerful foreign culture. As a result, for years, a student in Ontario would helplessly study Shakespeare and other famous British writers. Today, they may even also study
This means that everyone has an opportunity to learn the same things and there are equal rights for all. The introduction of free education for all in 1891 helped in the creation of the National Curriculum, as there was no longer the divide between classes in society. However; the school leaving age at this time was 11 years. After World War 1, the government condemned Britons as physically unfit, which prompted the decade of getting fit! Shortly after this, in 1919, the Education Act was introduced into school which raised the compulsory attendance age from 11 to 14 years.
As a country, we are spending over $190 billion a year treating these diseases, diseases that could be prevented by increasing exercise and decreasing calories. The scariest fact is that one in three children under 18 are overweight or obese, a rate that has tripled since 1960. The fact that the obesity rates are so high shows that as a society we accept this lifestyle. We need to be proactive as a country, and stop accepting this lifestyle and work towards a healthier society. If this continues we will have a new generation of people that don’t outlive their parents.
IRON For the casual athlete who trains less than four hours per week, iron deficiency is no more of a concern than for a sedentary person. But athletes who train for six or more hours per week often have iron-deficiency anemia and should be checked yearly for the condition. Female athletes who are unable to correct such mild anemia through diet can benefit from supplements. [4] 8. Athletes use iron stores more quickly than nonathletes and, considering the neurologic effects of anemia on children and teens who engage in rigorous sports, adequate intake of iron is quite important.
These sessions usually involve long distance running and working with weights to improve strength. Dry land sessions also involve anything from running stairs to doing push-ups and sit-ups. However, it has been shown that some have lost touch with this factor. Canada, like many nations, is an obesity crisis. Heavy media usage is considered to be more than 16 hours of media consumption a day. Not only is it proven that technology has changed the way we think, it has also damaged our ability to focus and concentrate. The proof can be found in the grades of minority children. It is reported that half of heavy media user report fair to poor grades and light media users (less than three hours of media per day) report higher grades.
